Thread: All Battles on Auto

    Default All Battles on Auto

I always play my campaign with all battles on auto resolve. I used to play RTW on VH/VH and only ever do the crucial battles in full, because there were fights I was certain to win easy-peasy but the AI would give me a crushing defeat. Generally you need a 2:1 advantage when using auto resolve vs 1:2 when fighting it yourself. Right now I'm playing MTW2 on M/M, because if I try VH/VH and do auto-resolve I'd get creamed. Even so it gets nasty when you hit problem areas like Northern Italy. Even if you win all the battles you lose so many troops its damn hard. Also Mongols are very tough cookies on auto-resolve. I get the impression everyone else plays all the battles. Opinions?

The Mongols are not sutch a problem on autoresolve. You need alot of spearmen, or pikemen, some heavy infantery and that is it. As a mater of fact i smashed them on h/h whith Spain using thercio pikemen just on autoresolve. Whitch is funny couse the pikemen suck on personel control.

i personally use autoresolve for some sieges because i can never get as low casualties as the ai does, other than that i enjoy battles and almost allways seem to kill many more enemy troops than the ai so i fight them

I started a campaign as Moors but got fed up with it pretty fast as huge skirmish armies (all archers and camel riders) got trashed against mixed low- grade Spanish forces (ie only one mailed knight in the stack, the rest spearmen etc)... if I played it out myself you could get all the units to rout one by one by intensive fire...
but auto-resolve always favours mixed armies...
also in practice an all-mailed knights army would trash an all-infantry army, but the Auto gives them vicotry with high casuatlies...
