From what we know, they did not have armored elephants even remotely like those Indian ones. Your best bet is to take the Nubian/Ethiopian provinces and recruit Armored Bush Elephants, as there aren't any specialized elephnats available in North Africa.

I'd think they were, or in any case "egypt" is listed in the ownership line of the unit in the EDU. The catch is, you can only recruit those wee beasties in the upper reaches of the Nile - in other words you have to go through the Ptolies to get them, and more likely than not fight the Saba tooth and nail for the provinces.

Here is a graph to illustrate the point."

One possible option would be to have them as very rare mercenaries in carthage itself, after all they imported bigger elephants from the east (Hannibal's elephant named surus is presumed to be from Syria)...

Wow elephants were widespread in the ancient world..... did they just live in Syria or were they in Judea, Mesopotamia etc. too?

And are there recruitable elephants with a regional MIC in Syrian provinces?

Well, the main recruitment areas were India (where the seleucids got most of their elephants) and some parts of africa, where you would get forest or bush elephants...
Of course if a kingdom had enough money they could have some elephants shipped from the east at great cost, Carthage did that sometimes to supplement the local recruitment pool which was mostly drawn from numidians and Carthage north african territories...
