    Default Hyperspace Prince

Right so I was playing Spain. Way fun game too, with several contenders right up until the start of High when the Hungarians, Sicilians, and Byzantines petered out and it became a three-way open ended game between France, Spain (me), and Italy. Because there were always huge stacks of Frenchmen around, I was launching probably more crusades than all my previous games of MTW:VI combined it was all very good as the crusades stripped away the vast french hordes, which kept me safer while I powered for a planned Late game push, yet at the same time, kept the french troops modern and prevented them from getting bogged down in upkeep.

So. Late in Early, I get hit by the Influence bug. It fixes itself in several years but it does its damage because my next king sucks. The decades roll past and the generation after, I have two even crappier princes but I'd already put a eugenics plan into motion so all I needed to do was get rid of them. So I idly threw them into a crusade bound for Horde controlled Volhynia.

So the crusade marches deep in French territory, during which time the Italians ate the Pope again but that didn't seem to disband mine or the simultaneous french crusade bound for Byzantine Greece. Then suddenly, the Italians jumped in and ate Volhynia. They'd been excommed before but because they'd killed the Pope, they'd got recommed and thus were valid catholics. The crusade disbands. Now, you all probably know what the question now is.

It seemed as if the game had a way of handling this. Soon, I get a message from "The Rhenish" and I have no idea who the hell they are, I suppose they're from whatever province the crusade was in (though it was french at the time). Except the Rhenish only offer to ransom one of my princes. I didn't know what was up with that but since it'd been my intention to kill them (and most of the crusade troops) anyway, I refused. So where does the other prince go?

Into hyperspace apparently. When I checked the the Royals screen, the other prince was still there but he no longer had the red lettering. That is, the game considered him alive but he was no longer the heir apparent and thus there were no heirs to Spain (this was my intention) but now I had the unique state of having a prince but no heir. Curious, I click on his name to find out where he is. Bam! CTD.

Kinda amusing if it hadn't destroyed two hours of late night play. :p

    Default Quantum Princes

I have just managed to find another way to crash the game using princes.

    First, some well known facts:
    1) When a unit is in charge of a stack, even if by itself, its commander appears on the commanders list in the Military menu. Clicking on his name centers the screen on him. If he is in the retraining queue then the province is highlighted instead.
    2) When you click a name on a royalty list, this centers you on the prince in the same way.
    3) Princes are often commanders.
    4) You can retrain princes in provinces that can retrain their bodyguard unit. Stacking more than one prince obviously results in a training queue.

So my Hospitaller princes have been drained in a ferocious battle against Turks. I send them back to Rhodes for refills. I select them while they are outside the castle, and drag both and one other drained knight group of 1 into the queue. There they are.

At the same time, since I've just conquered Asia Minor and my GM's about to die, I search around for my commanders and princes looking at their stats. A whole generation of princes is about to be disenfranchised afterall and they're going to have the stats to take up +star provinces like Trebizond. Meanwhile I'm looking to see if any of my other commanders have loyalty issues that make them especially suited to Lesser Armenia. Suddenly, I realize I have princes in the queue and also princes inside the castle. At some point, one of these princes appeared on one or the other menu and got centered while I had the castle and the retraining queue selected. This did not remove them from the training queue but did produce a doppleganger inside the castle because the thing really wanted to center on something. When I then removed the princes from the retraining queue, this spawned another quantum instance of them outside the castle.

Predictably, when i tried merging them into a stack, this produced a crash. :p
