Default Help! M2TW - Slow performance....

Please help! Medieval 2 runs like **** on m PC even though I'm well within
    the requirements.

My system is an Intel Core2Duo E6400 2.13 Ghz with 1 Gig of DDR2, 160 Gb
SATA hardisk and a GeForce 7600 GT 256 Mb.

I tried to run M2TW on modest settings of 1024X768, Medium detail on everything, no AA, and 4X AF but my framerate is abysmal! Help please! I bought this system specifically for this game and it's like this.

(Only the stars please - Beirut)

Try turning shadows off and put shader model on 1.
If it still lags, we'd have to investigate that further.

Thanks! I played a little more and I discovered some peculiarities...

Regardless of my settings (shader 1, or shadows off), the game looks choppy during custom battles. But then I tried playing a campaign, and everything was smooth!! So I cranked the settings up without changing the resolution (shader 2, shadows high, AAX4, AFX16, medium units, high everything else), and I was surprised that performance was good! The strategic map looks beautiful...

And when I fought a battle, guess what? Everything looked nice and smooth.... So i thought everything must be ok now so I left the campaign and started a custom battle... but it was still choppy!

Well... campaign mode is my preferred style of play anyway so its not going to be much of an issue but it still baffles me. Anyone seen something like this before? The campaign is fine but custom and historical battles as well get all choppy.

I had EXACTLY the same thing in my RTW campaign. Eventually I gave up and bought a new computer.
