well my name on Battle net is Xdeathfire and I usually am on Us West since most of my friends play on it

Probably the viral effect - friends had already gone to US West, so they did etc.Have a quick question though, I can understand why Australian and New Zealand users go on the U.S. West server, but why do so many from Singapore come when they have an Asia server?

But the thing is that in dota, most hosters only allow people from a certain area to join due to lag issuees. For example, hosters in us will only allow us/canada and people from singapore will take quite a while to find a join they could join that is us.
There are however lots of singapore games which is quite infuriating as I constantly join a game only to realize that it is a singapore one

Nope, that's because 99% of Asian server players are Koreans, speak and play exclusively in Korean language. No wonder the rest of Asia players look for server elsewhere...

Sapi- It is an issue since sometimes over 1/2 of the dota games are hosted by people from singapore and if you take into account australia and new zealond, maybe 2/3 to 3/4 of the dota games on west is not hosted from North America
