Question Comparison and arrow question and green thing question.

This is my first time back playing M2TW after EB and I would like to know some stuff.

    1. What is better Lands to conquer 2.1 or M2TW 1.2?

    2. Is there any way to make arrows in the ground permenant?

    3. How do I turn the green things under my units off?

    4. Any why to make men fall off walls? That was cool in RTW.

Please help me. Thanks in advance.

    I'd say 1.2, but get LTC 2.2 for 1.2.

    From the FAQ:

Q: How do I get rid of the green circles under the selected unit(s)?

A: In medieval2.preference.cfg, there is a line that says:
    disable_arrow_markers = 0
Just change the 0 to 1

As for the other 2 questions - dont think you can do this. If this is stuff you really really want then your best (though very slim) chance is to put a request in the 1.3 wishlist thread.

To make units fall off, have your artilelery destroy portions of the wall with enemy units on there and they will lose a significant portion of their men

That's not what I mean, I'm talking about when they fight another unit on the wall in RTW some would fall off, that's what I want.

That is only when the particular guy has died already and the falling off feaure is merely a result of physics on the dead body trying to fall down to the ground

Yes, his point is that it doesn't happen in m2tw as it did in rtw. No idea why that was changed...It was a very good feature.

To answer question 2, I don't think they have a way. Programatically, each and every missile is an object that is created dynamically when the unit fires. Each extra object created increases the amount of work on the CPU and the amount of memory required to play the game. As such after the arrows are no longer needed they are removed, freeing up resources for the important part of the game, namely killing stuff.

I really don't think they will add this any time soon. With the potential number of objects created during a battle being greater than the number of objects at the start, that would cause some serious overhead for a rather limited net gain.

There is a way, but I forgot what it was exactly. You can try increasing fade times in descr_effect_impacts , and see if that does the trick. Backup the file first, of course.

    OK, I was wrong.

Sinan, did you notice any reduction in frame rate as that... slaughter.. went on? ie, did your machine start slowing down at all? Also, what are the specs on your machine?

if im not mistaken the falling off the wall thing was taken out because in rome certian commands for them to move along the walls caused them to start falling off on their own.

Yes, I noticed that as well, when units routed while on walls it looked like the ran and jumped off the wall trying to kill them selves. It was still awsome.

Hi Longarrow, I don't know the impact first hand but most who've posted on this in TWC say it's fine. My machine is old, and in December I fried my GFX card, played m2 that much. So I got a 40 Euro Nvidia (IIRC 6300) GFX card installed right now, P4 2.6, 1 GiG RAM. Nothing special. I'm looking to upgrade to a gaming PLUS work laptop. Maybe I'll go for a station for gaming and seperate laptop for work. Only stations use way too much space. I'll install this mod and let you know the impact.

probably, provided you check the files and make sure you change only that which is required.

I don't know for sure. You should PM, or post to, Lusted to be sure.

Ok.I don't care about the arrow thing any more but now I want to know where to get vanilla 1.2, then I can remove all of this crap that i've been downloading. Instead of downloading the arrow thong can someone tell me the place to edit it myself.
