Default Left and right are often switched

When I go sieging, I always try to have 2 pieces of artillery with me.
Now when I click on their unit cards, these are always switched left from right in relation to their actual position on the field. I have never seen the left unit card actually belong to the left trebuchet.

I also often see this for cavalry units, and it probably also happens with other units.

It's not really a dealbreaker, but it is weird.

this has been the case right through the TW series.

well i just use this to know which unit i'm dealing with the one on the right is always my left sided unit

It seems like the designers viewed the battlefield from the other side... When you're behind your army, everything is mirrored unless you change the unit pictures around...
Still maintain that crying on the pitch should warrant a 3 match ban

Is it possible to drag and drop the cards without moving the units? I think I tried this once when I first got MTW2, and it didn't work, so I either have to just do the mental switch throughout the battle, or actually reverse the units' positions on the field during set-up.

Don't think it's possible to drag, but if you hold down ctrl while selecting, you can select multiple units. Then group and ungroup them, and you can arrange them however you want.

For example, say you have a line of longbowmen, who are placed the wrong way. Simply hold down ctrl and select them in the order they appear on the battlefield, starting from the left. Then when you have them all selected, group them, then ungroup.

Alternately, you can just view your army from the front if you want it to all make sense. Granted this is not practical in all situations, but for sieges especially it's not too difficult to command your army while viewing it from the settlement side. I sometimes even find it easier to do it that way: you can more easily see what your troops are doing once they're inside the enemy walls, and it's definitely a better vantage point for seeing the enemy units defending the wall/gate area.
