Although not strictly MTW there was another rac of people at the time of the Romans who lived in present day Balkans.(yugo,croatia,bosnia)

They had wolfskins that were tied to long poles of sturdy wood. When these poles were held up in the air/wind, the win would flow through the wolf-skin and make a howling sound. Scared half of their enemies away. But not the Romans!(sadly )
