Thread: Reforms

    Question Reforms

If I have a non-Roman unit set to be recruitable after the marian reforms, will my faction need to capture Italy and initiate the reforms or do I have to wait for the AI Romans? Also if the AI Romans are wiped out before the reforms will I still be able to recruit my post reform units?

The reforms are not linked to the Romans, except that it changes their units. What causes it to happen is the Italy hidden resource. When a city with the Italy resource builds an imperial palace, the reforms occur. You can add the Italy resource to a region outside of Italy, and when that region reaches huge city, you get the reforms.

AFAIK a non-roman faction, even having build imeprial palace in italy would't be able to trigger the reform. Only the roman faction tag (roman_julii, roman_scipii and romans_brutii) will be able to trigger the hardcoded reform.

Even giving roman culture to faction like gauls etc would make the trigger count.
Say: O unbelievers, I serve not what you serve, nor do you serve what I serve, nor shall I serve what you are serving, nor shall you be serving what I serve.
To you your religion, and to me my religion.

In EB the reforms trigger even though italy is only placed in, well, Italy and the Roman faction is actually seleucids.
