    Default AtomicGamer login

Everytime me and Twilightblade load a page, regardless of refreshing or pressing the back button, we get a pop-up asking us to log into atomicgamer

    It says:

    ByPassword

    Password

I have no idea what is happeing

*raises hand* Same here, very irritating when trying to moderate. I get them just before the QUOTE and QR reply buttons show up.

There must be some good reason... if it were the ByCamels login to arab.net I could at least understand, if not condone.

Oh no, not Another camel fiend! Truly, we are facing a dire situation.

The login popups have gone away now. It must have been the fault of all that solar radiation getting through the ozone layer. Who else would want us to log in to atomicgamer?

    Hello,

Does that happen frequently or was it a temporary bug?

I had it happen to me three times yesterday at random intervals. It was slightly odd, but I figured it was just a temporary bug. This was over approximately a two hour period of time. I haven't had a problem since then though.

This is the first time it's happened to me, and it hasn't happened since my last post. I'll definitely pop in here again if it comes back, but for now we're all right.

Yep, though i am not getting a lot of icons to show up. 90% sure its this computer, as when it was booting up it was doing stuff with files relating to these forums i think.

I didn't get the login, but I occasionally get redirected to atomicgamer.com for no apparent reason and sometimes my IE freezes for over 3 minutes while it reads in the status bar "opening atomicgamer.com"

I got the same thing just a minute ago, minus the freezing. I repeatedly tried to get back to the forum but always ended up at atomicgamer instead. It appears fine now though.

    Hello Fenring,

    It's because of backing up.

Okay, so who are they? Do they host this site?

Don't think so. I have my router blocking all ad providers of ORG and atomicgamer and the forum displays fine for me. I might be wrong on the hosting though (but then I ought to wonder what my router's doing)

Yep, they are most certainly the hosts - the .Org even has a nice little link on their website. I am certain that they do it for free, with no bandwidth limitations, and they provide free technical help and support. The only catches are the advertisements. However, Firefox with AdBlock+ can quickly resolve them. Hope this helps, cheers!

I had a similar problem around the same time, so I guess it was just a temporary issue.

I've just started suffering from this too. Every time I try to access this forum using my favourites link I end up redirected to Atomicgamer.

Bloody annoying, host or no host someone needs to tell them to get out of our face.

Just happened to me too (28/05), for about five minutes, anywhere I tried to go from where I was (a reply to Doc Bean's math question, btw ) took me to atomicgamer - including the "Post reply" button. Even closing the window and logging back into the forums took me there. Darned irritating, and definitely bad manners on someone's part. I don't think it's temporary so much as intermittent and needs looking at, IMHO.

    Hello,

Forums use a database to store the information. When something bad happens, all information is lost. This has happened a few times and it is the reason why you won't find posts here from 2000.

This board uses a SQL database and while pretty solid, that needs to be backed up too. Making a backup and keeping the forum public at the same time is not a good thing to do.

The board has a switch to disable the board for everyone but the admin. My experience is that that doesn't work well either. So I block the entire folder. When you request the forum at that moment, you request something that is not public and an error page pops up. Normally that is a 'white page' access denied. The host chose to make that a redirect to the mainpage, that's a pretty elegant method.

I've checked a few times to display a more informative error page, didn't get far with it yet, sorry. It's down for only a few minutes. That may be inconvenient, losing over a million posts is much worse.

Aha, that explains a lot, TosaInu, thanks for clarifying -- I was really under the impression it had been hacked/hijacked, as I had no idea who these atomicgamer people were.

And yes, I remember the last great dataloss, very disorientating...

A more informative error page would be an excellent option if it can be arranged, even just a "Sorry we're closed right now, but here's a word from our sponsors...." would do the trick

Luckily there was a very recent backup.

    Looking again at it.

    this one works.
