    Default A good book

"The Virtues of War-A Novel of Alexander the Great" by Steven Pressfield. Itt's just been released into TPB edition for $14.99 but if you're lucky you can go to Barnes & Noble and get the HC on clearance for $5.99 like I did. It's a first person(Alexander) account of the conquests up uuntil the time that his troops quit on him. Very good book, great battle details.

Have you tried Mary Renault's works? For me, they remain the definitive novels on Alexander.

@ IceWolf: I asked for - and received - the hardcover edition for Christmas a couple years ago, as I'd immensely enjoyed Pressfield's Tides of War and Gates of Fire; and so was willing to try Virtues of War on blind faith alone. While my faith was well-rewarded, I admit that IMO, it didn't quite match up to the other two titles I just mentioned. For me, Virtues was "merely" excellent, and would give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.

If you haven't already done so, IceWolf, then I strongly urge you to check out Tides of War and Gates of Fire as well -- I just can't recommend them enough. They're about the Peloponnesian War and the Battle of Thermopylae, respectively, and are quite simply two of the finest books I've ever read. (They're on my short list of titles that I make a point of reading at least once a year.)
