Red face Last settlement which can't be reached?

Hey guys, currently i'm basically holding 105 regions and i thought i have already conquered the world as there is no more faction to attack.

Somehow, suddenly a mission windows pop up with the mission of the explorer's guild requesting me to take a settlement called "Arguin", which is located at the mostttt bottom left corner of the map.

I was quite surprised as i have tried sending spied to the area before and cannot seems to find any settlement there.

What have confused me more is that when i try locating the city through the mission window by pressing the "magnifying glass icon", the locater moves to the spot which is outside of the map (in the black space) which none of my units can reach.

    Another bug?
Has anyone actually captured the city called Auguin?
Would all my time and effort spent hoping to conquer the world is wasted just because i can't reach the ghost city?

ps. anyone who wish to halp and want to see what is going wrong may just leave your e-mail address here so i can send the captured screen to you.

    Thank You.

It's perfectly reachable, but it's a loooong way to go.

    Recipe to reach Arguin:

    1. Get to Timbuktu
    2. Select general with high loyalty and movement bonus
    3. Assemble army, include spy, priest and merchants (some ivory and gold will be found during the trip)
    4. Turn left towards Atlantic, to West
    5. Reach Atlantic coast, follow upwards, to North
    6. In probably 10 turns you'll see a poor, underdeveloped village
    7. Smash the garrison - archers, camels, some infantry
    8. Wonder why you did all that...

(Later edit - after the "New World" event, Arguin can be reached by sea as well)

in my saved game, the settlement is located outside of the map.. my units could travel around 1 turn passed the gold and ivory and it reached the edge of the map.. the settlement location "in my game" was beyond the edge of the map and i can't move any unit there.. something is probably wrong..

    confused!!??

The settlement can easily be reached. It's concealed by fog of war(like in age of empires, for example) though, that's probably what's confusing people.

Simply move west from timbuktu, following the desert to the north. You have to bust the fog each time you move to get there, so you can't just point and click...

This show Arguin without the fog of war. The red line is the path you can move your army to get there.

Or build caravels in Portugal/Spain, and send them south along the African coast with an army. You'll eventually see Arguin, and then drop them off and conquer. I've taken it going both ways.

But it has to be a fleet of caravels *only*, or you can't get there. Think Prince Henry the Navigator. And don't just send one or two---there's a full stack of pirate ships sitting there waiting for you.

I suppose one could also send caravels southeast from Brazil too, though I haven't tried that.

Edit: Yes, that works too, so there are three different ways to reach this "settlement which can't be reached." But two of them don't work until you get the "World is Round" message in 1400.

Move as far West as you can. As your unit can see beyond where you previously could, you should now be able to continue west. Keep this up until you hit the Atlantic. You may have the same problem going north.

If you first send a military unit you will have this problem. If you first send a merchant/priest/spy, you should not have a problem.

Its wierd, but once you realize that its easier to send a priest first (plus it cuts down on religious problems) you'll get in the habit of doing this first.
