Sadly, it is relevant. The great feature of minimal_ui was intoduced in either patch 1.2 or 1.3 and is, sadly, not avaliable with anything below those versions. Sorry.

Sadly, R:TW resticts the number of units on the battlefeild at once to a certain number. I'm sorry to say that I'm not quite sure what it is though, however I do think that it may be quite high. Instead of the men appearing on the field straight away, they are delayed till units are destroyed or taken out of combat. It is there to prevent R:TW, and possibly your poor old PC, from rendering more men than it can do without severe lag.

Removing it allows as many men on the field as you like at any time (yet if you have more than twenty units all those above twenty must be AI controlled), yet may cause some nasty lagging on the battle-map.

    Hope this helps you, cheers!

ok...then what you mean removing it=change UNLIMITED_MEN_ON_BATTLEFIELD:FALSE to TRUE?

if i change UNLIMITED_MEN_ON_BATTLEFIELD:FALSE to TRUE then i will get more than 20 units on battlefield and all those above twenty must be AI controlled,in RTW 1.1 too? (let's ignoring about my PC perfomance at the moment)

It means that am unlimited number of mighty units, both your units, and the AI's, are permitted to be on the battlefield at any one time - this means that any re-enforcements that would normally break the limit will be allowed onto the field. However you can, sadly, only control twenty units at once and any-more have to be under the command of the AI, although they are on your side, or be given to you one-by-one as your units rout or get destroyed - that option is settable on the pre-battle screen.

I also have preferences.txt in the main rtw folder. But there is a preferences folder as well and the file there is the one which the game actually uses.

And I would rather not let the AI control my precious units. Also, my PC is aging and is now unable to handle the same level of graphics that it could easily handle 2 years ago, even though I increased the ram from 256 to 512 MB. So if your PC is good, go ahead and try it. It might be fun!

I'm sorry to say that I believe that you may have misunderstood me. Sadly, you still cannot control all of your units above twenty. The R:TW engine evilly insists that only twenty units can be controlled by the human at once, yet more can come on as re-enforcements, but will be controlled by the, rather idiotic AI.

"that option is settable on the pre-battle screen.".

I believe that is correct. But maybe Omanes Alexandrapolites can confirm it. In my current hard campaign, I have not used reinforcements yet :)

In all versions of R:TW player re-enforcement command was avaliable for captains, but not for family members - that useful feature was introduced in either 1.2 or 1.3.

Correct, only twenty of your units are allowed on the feild at once if you do select the option, yet they are replaced as units route or are destroyed. With the AI option on, as many troops are allowed on your side/the enemies' side until the limit is reached. After it is reached re-enforcements will be delayed until there are enough free slots for the units to appear in. With the unlimited men option turned off there is no limit, so as many re-enforcements can be brought on as you like, but you still can only control twenty of them. I'm not quite sure why - it is the same in S:TW and M:TW yet they are slightly worse, you are only allowed to command sixteen units at once.
