EB on M/M?

Did anyone play this mod on M/M?

Im just curious wether the ai is acting more logical in diplomacy on medium than very hard.

Nah, it is meant to be played on VH/M. Very Hard for Campaign, Medium for Battle.

I can't remember if the difficulty effects the diplomacy engine, it may do.

I play on M/M, because I hoped to have an AI acting more reasonable...
For years I was Allied with the Romans - than, while they were in war with carthargo, the Haedui and the Averni - they attacked one of my settlements - and do see no reason for a ceasefire...
My Armies looted Italy unpunished, the romans lost any major battle and I offered lots of mnai + 3 towns for a ceasefire - they didn't accept...
The Haedui, who than were allied with me, also attacked me for no reason (I grow to hate their geasatea-armies including more than five of these combined with heavy cavalery ) ^^

So it propably doesn't matter which difficulty you select for the campeign game - the AI will always try to be as unreasonable as possible ^^

I think that in vanilla rtw and in eb diplomacy is secondary to making war so i wouldnt count in it very much

Basically in VH, if you border the AI, even if you're allied, then it's War.
Worse is some of the stupid demands. I just had Makedon demand of me (Rome) to become their Protectorate, and hand over Sparta. That town is the only one I hold in Southern Greece, and I own the Illyrian Coast, after a long war with Epirus (I try to keep things slow). Anyway, the most ridiculous part of this, is that I landed two Legions (polybian) right before the AI asked.

So, moral of that:AI doesn't respect any treaties. Except, I find, when offering them a tribute of 100-400 for a time. Then, they become reasonable.

If you want the AI to respect treaties, as mentioned, just give them a small tribute every turn (100 or 200 mnai should be enough).

Medium campaign difficulty would just kill the AI in EB I guess, because it does need the extra 10000 a turn (which it get on VH) if it is going both to maintain the very expensive EB units and do something else all the while. As a player you can be reasonable about it and either disband or attack rebels immediately to get out of the red, the AI cannot disband and most certainly wont be very aggressive from the begining on.

That with the money donation each turn didn't work for me - the roman attack I mentioned before was done though they recieved 100 every trun from me...

Ive always played very hard, so I know

a) that the AI on this setting goes to war when you have a common border. I couldnt see from the answers wether it is doing this necessarily on medium. It would already make a big difference if it didnt.

Also I have seen that paying tribute can help very early in the game against factions, which dont have a common border with you, but still tend to go to war , like Greece (naval invasions in Italy, at least with BI-exe). But have anybody experienced this helping later in the game AND with a common border and on what difficulty settings?

Well I never play on VH since that has no appeal to me. The team has a money script which can be tailored to taste, and, since it appears to me at least that a lot of how an AI faction treats you is based on how wealthy/prosperous it is, I don't mind M/M at all. In fact, my Makedon campaign has had over 30 years of contiguous, peaceful relations (alliances) with the Sweboz and Arveni on my western front, both of whom share extensive borders with me. I have found, though, that keeping a minimum of 10 unit garrisons, preferably 3/4+ stack, in border cities is an effective deterrent as well, since the AI likes to target weaker towns. Without the extra 10k per turn VH gives, I found that almost all the factions cooled down reasonably well enough, with the only exception being the AS which gets mondo cash from the original money script. And even then it'll take a bit longer for it to pile drive its neighbors, and that's not a 100% guaranteed occurrence. The only "drawback" is that the Eleutheroi are dead in the water after turn 2 and they don't attack you, which is a shame. If I could only port that to M/M I'd be golden.
As for acting more logical on AI, they will, until the Hate-O-Meter builds up. When the AS originally attacked me due to Nikai rebelling (I didn't want it at the time) they fought a couple battles and then signed a peace treaty. They attacked again soon after, I beat the local armies, and this time took cities in payment. After the 3rd or 4th brushfire war the good ol' Meter filled up and its been a continuous slog for the last....45 years or so. Though I've now created a border with my allies the Pahlava filling in (incidentally, once I gave them those 3 extra territories they began pounding on Baktria badly, even taking Baktria proper). I've still got some AS holdouts on the Med coast but I'm using them as they and the Ptolies batter at each other. If the AS can actually bust into Egypt I'll be happily following right behind them.
On the plus side, now that I have no real active wars going my treasury is skyrocketing. Finally bust 1M mnai for the first ever in any campaign.

I had my (Rome) allies Sweboz backstab me in the middle of 100/turn for 20 turns tribute. We had been sharing borders for quite some time and this is on VH/M. AS who were allied to both Sweboz and myself broke the alliance and they were near the end of the 100/turn for 30 tuns tribute.

I always played on VH/M before but I gott tired of the endless AI stacks, so now adays I always play on M/M. And I think its much better with not so agressive AI so u can role play more..

So VH has insanely aggressive AI if I'm to understand... while Medium has non-aggressive eleutheroi. Maybe, then, Hard is the happy medium? I haven't tried that difficulty setting yet... maybe that will be my next campaign.

Force Diplomacy mod is the answer to the diplomatic problem; though it can be considerably annoying having to do it every other turn for awhile if the a.i is bent on attacking. It lets you roleplay or create situations to your hearts content.

Lack of a aggression is still a problem on VH sometimes. For even decades some factions (Getai, Sweboz, Casse, Bactria, Parthia, Luso are the most likely for this) will just not do anything and I have no idea why. Yet sometimes they will randomly spring to action and start on a conquering spree.

That's mainly because they lost a couple battles against eleutheroi in the beginning, and now the rebel generals have massive command and chevrons, making battles against them suicide for the AI.
And FWIW, I too use Force Diplomacy, but only when the AI is being terminally stupid. I don't think I've used it more than twice in my Mak camapign, which is approaching 200 BCE.

Some times I play on M, others on H, but I haven't played an actual campaign in a long time. Last time I did it was with Lusotannan and Casse (both are very fun factions and I highly recommend them).

Both were H/M, but the AI can be very frustrating. As Casse, the rebel AI attacked me and thus wrecked my economy. I had to cheat to win that battle otherwise it would have been the end of my campaign.

I play on M/M. I even played vanilla only on M/M despite it being a walk in the park. The only IMO annoying thing (that may or may not be an issue in VH) is that Romans have difficulties throwing out the Epirotes from Taras (they don't really seems to try), they rather attempt to slog their way through those well-defended Eleutheroi cities in cisalpine Gaul.

Guys....VH/M IS A CAKE WALK!!!!!!! Seriously, and I mean no disrespect for the newer players. Remember fellas this AIN'T vanilla, so you gotta get creative with battle tactics and even with where you move your armies in the map.

Another thing, you gotta understand that the AI will almost always attack you once the 2 of you share borders. Its just going to happen, dumb AI and its a non-moddable thing..... So you gotta have your cities ready to pump out troops at a moments notice, and have some forts in key places to slow down the AI's future attack. Again... get creative...

Also, I keep reading threads of people complaining that AI in VH sends full stack, after full stack, after full stack.... but they never even think about reasing a couple of armies and start plundering the AI's cities, and then give some of those cities to thier allies to act as buffer. Again... get creative..

The only problem is that now you will share a border with your ally if you don't already have one and ally or no he will turn on you maybe not at first but eventually. The best bet is to drive deep in the enemy heartland pillage his best cities (destroying the MIC's) and then star to conquer and keep his territories province by province sending more raids deeper into his territories (if they're a big faction that is).
It feels kind of weird and ahistorical perhaps (except for the steppe factions maybe) but staying on the defensive gets you nowhere except gets you bored eventually.
The money scripts can also help improve your game if you're getting frustrated of the stack-churning factions (Sweboz and AS and sometimes the Aedui or Arvernii if one of them completely takes out the other).

the point is not too hard but boring....you destroy elite stack after elite stack, ok you conquer and pillage the city´s, you happy...and face next turn 1-2 Merc only stacks with 1 General and 19 Merc Units you beat them (after hours of fighting and mayby a ctd^^) ...and see as soon as ai has its citys back once more endless stacks, this time leavies+merc´s....yea really a fun gg

i have played earlier VH/M too but now M/M ....the ai is as dumb at M/M as in VH/M but accept peace offers often and you face no more waves of full stacks so its more realistic.
