This conflict was a matter of course. If we had not sailed our ships east over the horizon, many more things than just boats would have disappeared from our land soon enough.
Was the skittle stock running low?

This is not a frivolous war, and all we ask is that it be decided only between the nations of Umbria and Illyria.
Why should I stand idle while my ally is attacked? If you want good relations, you cannot simply attack whenever your candy supply runs low.

On the other hand, Rome's hands are completely clean in this matter, and no retaliation should be sought against them by any party.
We have no quarrel with Rome.
And had I more time our situations may have been reversed eh?

    1. Our brothers and sons, down to nearly the last, are now in the military... fighting to protect the civilians that are left.

    2. We meant that it was a matter of course in the widest scope. Illyria would have found some pretense to attack us in the future. It looks as if all the saltwater has affected the Venetians mind for symbolism as of late, we think.

    3. This is a matter of security. We believe that the very survival of our population is at stake.

    Message from Carthage:

After discussing the matter with our ally, we have detirmined that we will accept the offer of ceasefire with Kender and Venice. As per the agreement, we ask that Venice and Kender stay off of the Island of Sardinia. In return, we will not land forces on Corsica.

And you'll withdraw your forces currently on Corsica, I presume?

Note to Sardinia and Kender: be sure to include in your PMs that you wish to sign a ceasefire, so that the 4 turn period before you can expand you economies can begin.

To Umbria; Illyria posed no threat to you. All you've done is awoken a sleeping giant.

Obviously. Unlike certain other leaders, I do not attempt to wiggle my way out of the truth with loopholes.

We can defeat giants, especially smug ones.
