    Likely they are on the process of attacking your country. They just take that as an excuse to cancel the alliance.

    That's true. When they cancel the alliance when you ask for a trade of something, it means they are planning to attack you. The attack will usually come within 10 turns.
    Still maintain that crying on the pitch should warrant a 3 match ban
