    Default Trebizond Archers

I was wondering, when are you able to build Trebizond archers? Is it just the Byzantines and do they have to hold Trebizond? I seem to be able to build them anywhere...

I just wanted to build more, because I have one unit of Trebizond archers absolutely decimate a full unit of feudal men-at-arms. The 60 men-at-arms started across a bridge and by the time they reached the other side, they had 5 survivors. The only thing attacking them were Trebizond archers.
Long live the King of the Chipmunks, whose name I cannot pronounce in English, but is something along these lines...

Trebizond Archers are actually light skirmishers and can fight pretty well hand to hand. They can only be trained by the Byzantine, though in any province on the map, and they get a valour bonus in Trebizond.

Trezibond archer has got good attack stack but poor defence. You should try Cuman Warriors which are archers with sword of the Cuman Empire. Cuman Warrior has BOTH good attack and defence.

Cuman Empire? Which mod is that? The Cumans were a Turkic Kipchak tribe of nomads not an empire as such. They were the successors to the Pechenegs and lost their independence when the Golden Horde arrived.

Sorry for being historically incorrect. I am actually refering to XL Mod where every nation can be an empire of sorts, depending on how you play them.

Ah, I only have VI and don't intend to get any mods. I found out about XL and decided that there were simply too many factions in the mod. I prefer the early expansion by eastern nations provided by having a large number of rebel lands.

For Trebizond archers, do they just require a simple bowyer? (I didn't use them much until I saw how they decimated the men-at-arms - until then, I just regarded them as slightly better than basic archers)

The standard Bowyer is all that is required for Trebizond Archers.

I simply limited their recruitment to Trebizond. Much better that way. Spamming TA's aint too much fun.

    Been to:

Swords Made of Letters - 1938. The war is looming in France - and Alexandre Reythier does not have much time left to protect his country. A novel set before the war.

A Painted Shield of Honour - 1313. Templar Knights in France are in grave danger. Can they be saved?

I usually do the same thing.
TA are better than standard archers as they've got an higher attack and a shield ; if I do remember well, they can be trained also in XL mod by Bulgarians.
Anyway, apart from starting need of ranged units, I find much better to wait until a master bowyer is built in Trebizond with or without a basic armourer, just to keep them suitable for desert battles too.
A +2 starting valour and a +1 defense for armourer are enough to make of TA an all-around infantry unit, and under a >3 stars general, good for matching even Cuman Warriors.

Or go to the units."era you are playing" txt of the main MTW/VI folder and find the column that reads out the TA's recruiting provinces using notepad. Edit that at will, save and exit.

    Many Thanks
