Thread: Vanilla unit speeds

    Default Vanilla unit speeds

Is there a way I can make the unit speed in eb what they were in vanilla? I know heavy infantry and cavalry can't run that quick in real life, but it annoying to see infantry running on the spot, also most of the time I fast forward my battles because the slow unit speed makes it very boring.

If the movement speeds aren't to your taste I suggest you try a different mod. EB is meant to be as historically accurate and those speeds allow for better tactical manuvers and more importantly they give the AI more time to counter.

Also, you can't change speeds without changing the amimation, otherwise ugly things happen.

We didn't change the animations, did we? I thought that was why they moon-walked. Anyway, you can change unit speed in the export_descr_unit.txt. I don't know what the vanilla values you would need to check it against a vanilla edu.

Huh ? I thought you went to the descr_model_battle and changed what movement-speed skeletons they use...

I and many others around the world are of the strong belief that the universe was created by a Flying Spaghetti Monster. --- Proof of the existence of the FSM, if needed, can be found in the recent uptick of global warming, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. Apparently His Pastaness is to be worshipped in full pirate regalia. The decline in worldwide pirate population over the past 200 years directly corresponds with the increase in global temperature. Here is a graph to illustrate the point."

Or that one, I'm basically talking out my arse. Its never advisable to read anything I write, which makes this warning difficult to heed.

    Speeds are controlled by DESCR_BATTLE_MAP_MOVEMENT_MODIFIERS.txt

Modify that back up to 1.0 for grass terrain if you want the vanilla speeds.

Personally, I play my battles scaled at 1:6, so my movements are roughly half the EB normal ones. Yes, there is some 'skating' goes on, but I know what it represents.

    Following up on this post.....

I PERSONALY recommend that you stick with the speed values EB developed.

Also, its not just the speed of the game that EB changed. KILL RATES were also reduced to show the soldiers as actually fighting. Instead of "dropping dead upon contact with a spear/sword/axe/arrow/javeling", which was the norm in vanilla.

IF you stick it through a few more battles, in VH/M, or above difficulty, (NOT BELLOW!!!!!) you will see that there is more to fighting that matching up stronger troops versus weaker ones.

again, that is only my personal recommendation,

Are there any more changes besides reducing lethality for melee, walk/running speed and morale boosts? All missile weapons still have 1 lethality don't they?

Edit: And fatigue is much more realistic now, or am I mistaken?

Missiles always have 1 lethality, it can't be changed.
