    Default Cavalry Behaviour totally idiotic

First I must say that mostly EB0.81a is magnificient and I am continually amazed and delighted playing it. I mean that but. Three things drive me mad. It mostly applies to cavalry but can happen with groups of other units. They charge in completely the wrong direction and get anihilated by charging into massed pikes that you told them to run AWAY from. The problem seems to be that they try to execute a fancy curving turn which starts at 90 degrees to the way you want them to go. This would be fine on a parade ground but in the middle of a battle it is idiotic behaviour. I cannot believe this is realistic. No professional soldier would have this disregard for his own safety. The second problem is 'sticky' places on the battlefield. Units get stuck and refuse to move. They often appear to be fighting invisible enemies. When this happens the whole unit can slowly die before your eyes (or be cut down by enemy troops which are mobie.) and there is nothing you can do about it. This always seems to be near a pile of dead bodies. Lastly sometimes when I have carefully grouped and positioned my units I tell them all to move and they re-arrange themselves on the way! The result is I am franticaly re-organising in front of my enemy.

    So sue CA over it.
"Let us remember that there are multiple theories of Intelligent Design. I and many others around the world are of the strong belief that the universe was created by a Flying Spaghetti Monster. --- Proof of the existence of the FSM, if needed, can be found in the recent uptick of global warming, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. Apparently His Pastaness is to be worshipped in full pirate regalia. The decline in worldwide pirate population over the past 200 years directly corresponds with the increase in global temperature. Here is a graph to illustrate the point."

I had not noticed these behaviours before in RTW, RTR or EB up to 0.81 so I assumed it was caused by a change made by the EB team in 0.81A. Am I wrong? Have these features always been there and I have just been very unobservant?

The first one is probably due to the fact that when an unengadged enemy is attacked, they immediately cancel all commands and attack their attacker. This is very apparent with cavalry due to their mobility.

The second one is the 'shadow boxing' bug. That one is a bug that didn't used to exsist but popped up in RTW 1.5/1.6. It is universal and definately a RTW bug and not a EB bug (I have seen in in many 1.5 and BI1.6 mods).

I've seen that rearranging thing too. Like the guys on the right flank decide they want to be in the middle, leaving a hole in your line while they walk perpendicular to the attacking enemy. I believe this is a RTW thing, I don't see how EB could have caused it. They way I get around it is just selecting my units and clicking on an area ahead of them and hope they stay parrallel to the enemy line (the rearranging thing seems to only happen when you click and drag to deploy). Push 'Shift' and there will be little red marks showing where the selected units are moving to to see if they are parrallel to the enemy line.

Thanks for the reply. I think you have explained the problem. I installed BI 1.6 at the same time as EB0.81A. I think all these features must be caused by BI 1.6. Is it possible/advisable to go back to 1.5?

v1.5 and v1.6 are actually the same thing (for the most part). The only thing that is different is BI. If you have BI then the original is actually still v1.5. And these bugs exsist in both v1.5 and v1.6.
