    Question Urban Cohort

As the title of the thread suggests ,It's about the "Uraban Cohort"s which were in the vanilla RTW but aren't in the EB ?! IN RTW "Urban Cohorts" are elit soldiers of the legiones who whenever not in war ,Their duty is to garrsion the important cities of the empire.

    Hi kambiz,
I think, although I'm, sadly, no historical expert, that they did not exist in R:TW's/EB's timeframe - I think that the great emperor Augustus created them around about 14BC and 36AD. Also, I beleive, that R:TW showed them rather incorrectly too, I think that they were simple town watchmen and firefighters rather than high-powered armoured fighting machines. Hope this helps, cheers!

What is your question exactly? Whether EB has urban cohorts, or whether they were real? The answer to the former is no, and the answer to the latter is that it depends. Augustus did indeed establish an Urban Cohort in Rome, but they weren't the super-praetorians that R:TW made them out to be.

Edit: Omanes beat me to it. However, I'd like to add that both R:TW and EB end with the death of Augustus, so the Urban Cohort would be within the time-frame.

It has been said, but here is the official EB answer.

Urban Cohorts as in RTW never existed. The analogous unit in EB are the Vigiles, though they were a sperate organisation.

Well I think we did answer your first question. In answer to your second:

There were ten cohorts in a reformed Marian Legion and the first cohort was the senior of these. The Centurians were the most experienced and the legionaries the most grizzeled. The first cohort also carried the Legionary Eagle, the Legion's standard.

At some time during the reign of Augustus the size of the centuries in this cohort was doubled from 80 to 160 and their number reduced from 6 to 5.
