How do you get Massiliotes Hoplitai?

I'm currently playing as Epeiros and I have a type 4 government and level 4 foreign MIC in Massalia, but I can't train these guys. Are they not trained in Massalia or what?

On a side note, I've been looking at the trading card project trying to figure out what units I can levy from captured Roman provinces. Supposedly, cards with the "R" under the picture can be recruited regionally, but I noticed Hasati don't have an "R" under them but I can recruit them.

And while we are on it, where can I recruit these Taxeis Triballoi I see in the regional unit trading cards? Heh, I wish it was easier to figure all these things out without constant construction trial and error.

Not all factions get all regional units.

Only Aedui, Arverni, and Koinon Hellenon get Massiliotes Hoplitai.
Hastati were only recently made regional and Ark may not have made that update yet.
Only Makedonia and Getai get Taxeis Triballoi.

Yes, you can hire them as mercs in the region around Massilia.

Apart from the region of massalia you can recruit them in the adjacent seaside region(dont remember name) as mercenaries
Nice exotic unit although in strength similar to other greek hoplites.

I get them since they look cool and add some nice flavour But compared to regular hoplites they seem to die in droves.

Actualy, when I took Massalia as romans, Those buggers ate trough my triarii!! I thought it was going to be a smooth battle but noo... They had to activate their hiden trait super_man and take 3 or 4 triarii for each one of them. I had to send my Principes to help the triarii or the walls were lost...

What difficulty was that on? I play on Normal since I like my elites to fight as they should.

Did you send the Triarii up the walls? If so, there be your answer, especially if you used Camillan Triarii. The Masilla Hoplites use some Celtic equipment like the longsword and have a better sword meleee than Triarii (though maybe not the Polybian ones). Always use Principes if you want walls without undue casualties. Hastati are about as good as well. Either one will at worst get a 1:1 kill ratio with the Masillans in my experience.
EDIT: While it has been a while since I fought them, I do seem to remember the Masillans switching to swords on the wall as opposed to, say, Theurophoroi who are stuck with their spears. If not, then you may have had an aberration. Or the captain/general was in that unit.

Mind you, the MHs have a fairly low attack rating (9 or so) with their swords IIRC. 0.225 lethality or not, that ought to give them some trouble with Triarii-level defense scores.

MH normaly fight with long Gallic swords in an infantry formation (some space between individual soldiers). The Spear is a secondary weapon, you have to press ALT for them to use it.

I am using them in my Aedui campain, they are cool, but they are not too strong. For some reason, they tend to take heavy casualties to javelings. Because of that I rarely put them in the front. I generaly use them in HOLD and make them fight with spears to hold off cavalry.

Strangely enough I seem to remember recruiting them as the roman's in Massila. I'm about to start up my .82 campaign so Ill update you if I find a different result
