Lithuania in XL

Hey

I've been playing the Grand Duchy in MTW XL in High Period, and as I have the crummy Lithuanian Cavalry and not much else good (save for LT Infantry), does anyone have some tactical battlefield advice for me?

I forget -- what does your current unit roster consist of? (It's been a long time since I've played the Lithiuanians, so you'll have to refresh my memory before I can dispense any useful advice!)

They don't have much. I started a Lithuanian camp this week, and they're tough. Very little income, aggressive neighbors, and bad provincial infrastructure. As far as unit roster, they have the basic cheapo unit roster and then get Lithuanian cavalry and infantry. Which both aren't bad in early but get quickly outclassed. I have gotten the feeling that I don't get any fun new toys to play with as time passes either; its like they're stuck in Early when every one else advances technologically. To be fair, though, I am still in early. :D

Uniques are Lithuanian Infantry and Lithuanian Cavalry. Lithuanian Turcopoles are semi-unique.

They seem to be stuck in early, you are right, which sucks I've been playing the Poles a bit, I've taken over most of Northern and some of Central Germany, then attacked Bohemia then fell into civil war I guess it was from using too many mercenaries, hehe. But I've recovered easily and taken Bohemia.

The Poles aren't the easiest, but at least they get royal knights and Polish retainers. Lithuanian Cavalry are hardly worth it I win through strategy and sheer numbers with the LT I suppose...though I would love a guide/tips for tactics in battle

I've not tried Lithuania yet, always looked a little scary stuck in the undeveloped corner of the map. Maybe I'll give them a run when I get the urge for a change of scene from my current era... Looks like a challenging campaign from what you're saying

Yeah that area is a challange

I see the Novos & Lithuanians at war almost all the time, with 5 out of 6 games going to the Lithuanians...

If I have the Volga Bulgars or Cumans, I then steamroll the victor

The Lithuanians are usually smart and ally with the Poles/HRE/Hungarians and go North & East usually

The Novos usually stay in the North and go after the Swedes/Danes, and in one game, the Novos actually overwhemlmed the HRE

So I think the Kiev faction probably has the hardest time as they are sanwhiched in between 3 tough factions (Cumans, Lithu, Volga)
