Ha! Payback time for making me, making me I say, buy a surefire torch. And a cold steel folding knife. Check this sucker out: http://www.blackbearflashlights.com/

You want one Beruit, you know you do.

Anyone else got any good quality stuff men don't need, but that we REALLY want?

    Sweet, custom Mag-Lights. Very nice.

But I still want a Surefire first. Did you really buy one? And which Cold Steel knife did you buy?

Speaking of folding knives, I bought one of these for my the guy I work with.

He was carying a made a Made in Nowhere El Cheapo knife and it drove me nuts, so I got him a good one. This is, without a doubt, the sharpest knife I have ever seen. Scary sharp. (And it was on sale.)

Sweet knife Beirut. I just found what I wanted for Father's Day.
My old Mag-light (4 D-Cell model) is 20 years old and still works like new. Came in real handy at work, especially the midnight shift. They are a worthy investment.

The Ultimate Swiss Army Knife should come with a belt case and suspenders to hold your pants up.

I always keep one of these handy. Leatherman

It's very good knife. Lightweight, but well built and solid. My buddy uses his to cut oranges with more than anything else. (Our work truck smells like Florida.) It's excellent for cutting rope.

I've been pretty happy with the Buck X-Tract. I mainly just take it along on day hikes though, so I doubt it sees as heavy, day-to-day use of some of you fellas would put it through.

Buck makes fine knives too, very heavy duty. They used to have a free replacement guarantee if lost or broken a while back. A friend of mine "lost" his and presented me with the replacement. Do they still have that promotion I wonder? I imagine there were a lot of "lost knives"...

    Wonderful tools.

A short story if I may.

About twenty-years ago, on a drive back from Toronto to Montreal, we came across a horrible car accident. Two cars went head to head on the Trans-Canada. Long story short, I end up holding a girl's head up straight while the paramedic puts a neck brace on her, she's still pinned in the car at this point. The seat belt is in the way and the paramedic can't move it and has nothing to cut it with. I tell him I have a knife in a holder on my belt. He pulls out my Swiss Army knife and cuts the seat belt. He looks at me and says, "You're a handy guy."

Swiss Army knives save the day.

Swiss Army knives are great tools. Their smaller size comes in handy when weight and portability is an issue. The quality steel really holds an edge. I don't understand the embarassment, Doc. Millions of soldiers and civilians over the last century have put them to good use.

Try cutting your steak with a gun..

It is actually a great knive, the woodsaw is a heck of a lot more effective than you'd expect from such a small knife (enough to quickly cut through some pinetree braches anyway).

But it does lack a machette...

Way back when, I gave everyone in my (big) family the exact same Christmas present, a key chain Swiss Army knife and a Mini-Mag-Light. I've never seen gifts so enthusiastically received or kept for so long.

Now, every Christmas when my woman is freaking out about what to get her dad and her brother, I always tell her; "Woman! Get them a flashlight or a good knife." She says they both have flashlights and knives already. I retort that a man can never have too many good quality knives or flashlights. And I'm right.

I have a suitable knife and flashlight for every occasion.

Mr. Filet Mignon of Porterhouse, Texas, was cut down in his prime (rib) today by two armed with Heinz AK-47 steak sauce. Police stated that although the murder was well-done, such marksmanship is very rare. Police began their investigation soon after confiscating Mr. Mignon's remains for "extensive testing".

But I still want a Surefire first. Did you really buy one? And which Cold Steel knife did you buy?
Not only did I buy one, it lives in my jacket pocket. I'd go and get it out now and tell you exactly what sort, only my trainee might wonder why I was getting a torch out in the office. Its a 2 battery jobbie with an incandescent bulb, and its BRIGHT.

Its surprising how often it comes in handy, if you have kids anyway. There are always castle dungeons to explore, hollow trees to climb inside, warship engine rooms to peer into, etc. (I hear though that Fenix are the cost sensitive purchasers torch of choice these days. Dunno myself. I did get Mrs Assassin a Ledwave and that is pretty good for the money)

I got a cold steel folding locker of some sort but I can't remember the model name now. For a folder, its very robust. I use it for camping in the Highlands. To be honest, given that it is not legal to carry it every day in the UK, and given that for camping a small fixed blade knife would be hardly any heavier, is just as legal, and obviously stronger over all, its a solution in search of a problem for me. But it is a very well made piece of kit and nice to have for that reason alone.

I never leave the house without my Swiss Army Knife, it's come in very useful a few times and doubles as last resort defence if I should run into any trouble.
