    Default Campaign problems.

I recently downloaded EB and started a campaign as the Romani it was all going well until the year 233, i managed to conquer southern italy and have some holdings in Greece. However recently I have faced constant invasion from Averni, Sweboz and Getai, who somehow constanly send full stack armies against me every turn, putting my three legions in constant strain. And i just cant see anyway to do anything else other then survive, as all my income is constantly spent on retraining my legions. The setting i am on is H/H, and i have only just found out the best setting is VH/M. So i want to know what everyones advice for my campaign is, should i start again on VH/M? Download the Force Diplomacy mod and sue for peace? Or keep plugging it out and hope i can somehow turn the tide?

    Thanks, Caesar89

    1. blitz them
    2. or restart playin VH/M (which wont make a difference to spamming)
    3. or use the force diplomacy mod
    4. or use one of the money scripts found in the mods section

heres a pic of the map just to show everyone what i am facing, used the Forced Diplomacy Mod to get the map info, only neighbouring factions are upto date, but just look at the size of the barbarian empires

You can also use the toggle_fow console command to lift the fog of war to take a picture of the whole map easily - just press tilde, the key under the Esc key, type toggle_fow into the console and press enter. Repeat to replace the fog.

It is important for the roman economy to have high trade income. Sicily, Corsica, Sardinia and the Baleares should be high priority in the beginning.

    I agree with kalkwerk.

Another advice I'd give is to better plan which areas you attack. In the beginning when you don't have much money go for the south of Italy and then for the islands and Carthaginian lands. 2 armies should be enough for Africa or the Carthi lands in Spain plus some stacks of cheap skirmishers for garrisons.

The thing is to always attack the areas in the right order. What I mean is, as long as you don't have enough money for more than 2 or 3 legions, use most of the money for building up your towns and try to conquer in the way that no areas are in danger and the enemy can only attack you there where you have your armies. do you know what I mean?

On your map you conquered the areas down the Balkans and then went into Dacian lands. Now you have 5 areas there which all share boarders with at least 1 enemy and you are lucky if the Greeks or Macedonians don't attack you from the south. this means you need all troops and money for defence.

To explain what I mean: for example, you only need 2 armies for Africa and you'd save lots of money AND still be very quick. Land one army near Carthago, one near Hadrumetum, capture both, move in some cheap garrisons and then proceed with one army towards Hippo with the other towards Lepcis, like this you can proceed and intercept any Carthaginian armies heading for your new towns, but you save lots of money because you don't need strong garrisons and voilà you got Africa, same thing with Spain (landing in the South near Carthagena and Gader as they can only be counterattacked from 1 direction). Like this you save a lot of money because you only have few towns sharing a boarder with the enemy. Once you got that you can build 5 armies to go to Greece (1 army lands at Sparta, one at Thermon, one at Dyrhachium, the other 2 proceed to Pella and one of the other towns). that's the best way to do it imho. always try to limit your boarders.

Caesar: I always give tribute to every nation(at least once continually if necessarily if I border them it helps so much to contain AI agression rather than just relying on a huge garrison or army to deter em. I think 50-200 is acceptable
i usually just be cheap and give em 100 for 20 turns,k seems to work

To answer your second part: after I took the mediolam town in late 260's i declared ceasefire they accepted(with gift of course). From here after this ceasefire, after some turns i then gave gave them a tribute and probably 3 more times

you just need spys on your borders and at least a half stack defending main border towns for deterrence. Further in campagin a greater will be required(in this regioin). SO if you see some big stacks suddenly piled on your border PUT them in line and place a strong garrision- when they go reduce it again

Perhaps what helped me was i left Massila for the gauls to take(every other time I have taken it- allowing me to concentrate my defence) wasnt until i think 198 till grabbed it- declared war after they would not sell it to me or give my a tribute(beginning my assault on the gauls-Aedui)

I think EB could have in the script an option that gave your bordering factions 200 every turn... Just so the AI would respect aliances.

If you look in the script, you'll see that we give the AI factions a lot more than 200 per turn. It does not change their attitude unless you are doing it by diplomacy.

I meant by diplomacy not andling money like that. I ment something that made the AI think it recieved a gift from the player.

    Cheers...
