    Curious. I seem to have gotten rid of the slowdown issue by cleaning away redunant and/or incompatible stuff - but now the machine instead freezes completely after running long enough (4-6 hours on the average). And that's completely enough that reboot through the manual reset button happens with a few seconds' delay... and this regardless of what exactly the comp's been doing, although the less it's been occupied the longer it seems to stay alive.

    Gah. If it's not one thing it's another.
