Wrong day for this thread, for me. Restarted my diet today so not much. Yesterday was a travelling day. Last good meal I had was Friday night, when we had pork tenderloin at my parents' house.

Chees&Onion pie followed by apple crumble. Good to be home, however briefly!

Of course, Hosakawa! Took forever to find at the asian grocery today, had them hidden behind all the sweet red bean ones.

I can't remember the last time I had those delicious dumplings. It's siopao and spinach gulay for dinner tomorrow. My favorite meal when deployed to the Philippines oh so many years ago.

Had chicken tandoori today, that tandoori marinade is so good!
Yes yes, I know it's probably a cheap commercial knock-off and nothing like the "real indie thing", but it's still darn good.

Some Sri Lankan cuisine over at my friend's house. Looks and tastes exceedingly similar to my familiar Thai cuisine, which I positively hate. Considering its only competition today is some toast with butter-and-jam in the morning it's sort of a win, but not really.
Ah well. Off to another meal with me then.![]()

Be well. Do good. Keep in touch.
Hmm, never had a lot of the things you guys are talking about, like Siapao and Yum Cha. We don't get as much diversity here in the middle of nowhere. Pretty much its a lot of sports bars and mexican restaurants.
Hmm, I suppose the best thing I had today was a ground turkey meat burger. Ground turkey is quite excellent, imo. It works especially well on my Foreman grill.

I'll find out and get back to ya, just remember it was in Black Town. Pretty seedy area and finding parking was a consistent ordeal, but the shark fin dim sum was sooo worth it. My other favorite was the rice noodle thing (forget the name). It was a long and flat noodle with two big prawns inside that they'd serve with a dousing of soy sauce that was fantastic.Originally Posted by Papewaio

Hating Thai food?! My God, utter blasphemy. To be honest, I didn't like it much as a child, but mainly because I kept ordering curries and the coconut milk based ones sit terribly in my stomach. Have you tried some of the more simple dishes like pad thai or glass noodle salad? Those are the Thai dishes that won me over and now I'm hooked.Originally Posted by Anti
The great thing about siopao is that a drunken alzheimer's patient could make it. If you have any of those Asian groceries around you that are spreading like wild fire in northern Virginia, you can just ask for the steamed sweet buns (like Hosa knows, get the barbqued pork!) and you will get what you're looking for. There you can get a steamer basket* usually for a few dollars, and you just boil a pot of water, put the basket on top, and let the buns steam for 10 minutes or so. The directions say you can microwave them too, but they're prolly not as soft and moist that way.Originally Posted by Kukri
Don't take the Mexican food for granted! While in Australia, I had prolly the best Thai, Chinese, and Indian food I've ever had, but their Mexican food is downright awful. Seems strange that such a simple cuisine could be done wrong, but believe me, you couldn't get a satisfactory enchilada down there for your life.Originally Posted by greater

That does make me a curious creature. The World likes Thai food and yet this one individual finds many of the more "elegant" dishes downright disgusting. I guess I just never really found the abundance of spice to be that enticing. Mind you, my favorite Thai cuisine -- and I do love those which I like -- are simpler ones less overloaded with all the spice and chili and all the flora of Tropical SE Asia. And I hate spicy food :P

But since this is an uplifting thread about nice food, I guess I'll have to answer the topic and says that today's fish (fried, eaten with rice), tuna sandwich, and a bowl of homemade spaghetti (all in separate meals) are all quite wonderfully engaging. And, like always, off to eat with me!
(How the heck am I so damn thin with so much love for food? 107 Pounds is unhealthy no matter how anyone put it. -.-)
The big fat shot of bourbon I'm drinking right now.
Other than that, my cereal at breakfast was very good. Organic "Cheerios" with blueberries, bananas, pumpkin seeds, and organic milk. Love it.

A PB&J sandwich.
The bread was lightly toasted, just right to add texture, the peanut butter was good Adams stuff, the perfect consistency, the jelly was great and it all came together perfectly with a glass of milk. Mmm, baby.

I had a blanquette de veau for lunch. If my translator is correct, it's white veal stew with cream and onions. With rice mixed with mushrooms and followed by strawberrys and pineapple, it was a correct meal.
Possibly the soup I had for lunch - Carrot and Coriander. I had begun to get bored with having it every day for the past few weeks, so I decided to spice it up a little. I added to it, while it was simmering, a moderate amount of garlic powder, a pinch of salt, black pepper, extra coriander powder and a few chives. The best I've ever tasted it. However, on the down side, nobody has dared to come near me all afternoon - what is it with people and the smell of garlic?

Nope, and neither do I. But it (well they I had two) was so good after 10 beers, plus Smirnoff and Jägerbombs.Originally Posted by greaterkhaan

My pride.
Woke up this morning outside my flat still drunk having had a silly amount of alcohol yesterday, and then left without bringing my keys with me. Oops.
Otherwise... Reheated roast pork and mash (the best bit: potato, sweet potato, spring onions and a small amount of apple). Though the chicken and avocado wrap I had for lunch was very nice too, but I didn't make it.
Hamburgers on the grill with German potato salad. Sooey!
