Song or rather a music video question

Recently heard a song that cuased some flashbacks. I remember that the song was quite ok, but I was fascinated by the video in some way, so I was considering checking it out on youtube the see why it stucked.

Problem is that I've forgotten most about it and it's so old that it was before I bothered about learning the name of the artist/group or title. And I've forgotten most about both the song and the video, so finding out what song it was isn't exactly easy...

The vague memories that's left is that is was on mtv (very certain about that one), was animated (I think it was in darker animé style), and that somewhere in the video who have someone writing on a keyboard and his hand splitting up in several metallic fingers (aka cyborg style) and wrote faster with them. That thing really stucked, the rest of my memories is too vague for me to be certain that they give an accurate description.

I think the video was quite dark in colour and the little of the music I remember indicates tendencies towards electronic (but I've got no idea on the sub-genre there). It's most likely from before 2000.

I know that I would recognise the video or the song if I saw/heard it.

No much to go on right?

But any help would be appriciated, if anyone can. Digging through half of the artists that's been on mtv feels like a bit of an overkill, it's not that interesting to find it out.

Hmm the only song that slips to mind would be one of Daft Punk, although that music clip would border more on the science fiction than on the anime. Really the only one that comes to mind at the moment.

I can only think of Daft Punk too. French techno meets Japanese anime.

They made a full length anime movie in 1999, Interstella 5555, featuring lots of well-known hits.
