Thread: Changing Unit Stats using the Gnome Editor

Post Changing Unit Stats using the Gnome Editor

    Hullo guys,
I'm sorry to say that, when it comes to modding, in any game of the TW series, I am absolutely hopeless, my first terrible modding action with the R:TW trait files forced me to re-install my game, so please bear with me and my noobish and highly stupid question, sorry BTW.

For some reason or another, not quite sure why, I feel like trying out a little bit of pleasurable unit statistic modding using the Gnome editor. I have downloaded the brilliant modding tool to my PC and have launched it up ready to play with the unit files. Unfortunately, although it works fine and looks perfect too, I simply cannot gain access to the units statistics (morale, attack and defence) - peculiarly, only the unit bonuses and a range of other interesting factors seem to emerge when I open up the unit files in my directory that contain the statistics.

I know that I'm probably doing something wrong, as always, I am stupid after all! So may I ask you fellows what I have to do/change to allow myself to modify (or probably, in my case, destroy) the existing M:TW VI unit statistics. Thanks very much guys, cheers!

The file you need to open is in the "Medieval - Total War" directory. Browse to that directory and copy the file "crusaders_unit_prod11.txt" to "crusaders_unit_prod11.bak". Copy the Gnome Editor program into the "Medieval - Total War" directory. Run the Gnome Editor and load the "crusaders_unit_prod11.txt" file. You will see a spreadsheet type of layout of all the unit variables and stats. Scroll across until you find the columns 37 - 41 containing:

    CHARGE_BONUS( 6 ), MELEE_BONUS( 5 ), DEFENCE_BONUS( -3 ), ARMOUR_LEVEL( 1 ), HONOUR_LEVEL( 0 )

These are the basic stats. Melee = attack, and Honour = Morale. The rest is self explanatory.

Most stats have limitations, I can't remember them off hand as I've never exceeded them (Someone such as barocca or Puzz3D will know). Inside of these limitations there are also usable stats. While you may be able to use very high or low values, those values just won't work properly in game and will create either nerfed or jedi units. The minimum armour is 1.

If you mess up you can restore from the backup and start again.
