Known bug?

I skimmed the buglist and didn't see this, but it's pretty rare and probably no big deal. I had a captain called into battle to reinforce an ally AI's general. I wanted out of the fight (Neutral to the opponent), but in a new twist (to me) I had the option to check 'night attack.' I figured, what the heck, checked it, and sure enough my captain's stack grayed out. When I clicked to start the battle I got a background beep and a black screen hang, with spinning hourglass. Alt-F4 got me out to the desktop.

I think that captain could still move laterally to that spot from my last save, otherwise I'll just fight it out, but FYI, this is not an good way to see an AI vs AI battle.

Interesting...seems to me that the fault lay in allowing you the option of selecting night attack.

I had that before the other way around actually. AI captains calling me for a night attack (usually siege).
That worked fine however.
