You'll find the old textures in the old releases. Don't know where you can find those though. You should find it by searching with eMule for "barbarorum" at least, but I doubt there are many serving the file.

As far as i know this unit hasn't changed from 0.72.Does anyone still have the original Thorakitai Argyraspidai texture and sprites from pre 0.8?

Not when I'm playing as the Lusotannan. Diadosikelli (or at least soelthing similar) still beat them filthy barbarian greeks.
