It is good enough to run the game on Medium in-game settings* (in the BF2 Options screen) without lag and related trouble. That is, except when you just enter a new game/map and the card has to load an awful amount of data all at the same time. So don't try anything special right after your first or second spawn, take it easy for a minute or two until the game runs smoothly. You will be golden for the rest of the game.

If your game keeps lagging despite the new card, it probably means that your CPU isn't up to it. It might help to lower the in-game settings. Turn off the Anti-Aliasing for starters, it may not make the picture nicer but it makes an awful difference with regard to lag.

If you have to lower other in-game settings, don't alter the Distance or Texture Filtering otherwise you're cooked in any fight.

    Good killing!

    * Except for Viewing Distance (which you should set at 100%) and Texture Filtering (which should be High). Texture Filtering is the amount of detail you can still see whilst viewing distance increases. It enables you to spot a tank or choper (and their fire) from afar. Both settings are necessary if you want to (1) fire your own heavy stuff (like tank grenades and chopper missiles) accurately, and (2) view the opposition's incoming fire in time to react.

For the last few days i've been playing on a server made of pure awesome, if anyone is interested in joining me. They have all unlocks available, and you don't get points for killing with a plane/helicopter, so there is none of the retardness with plane DESUDESUDESU~/idiots waiting around for vehicles that you get on other servers. It's called -=RULEZ=- Free For All v1.4 or something like that.

My name is FatmanFive if you were wondering.

hmmmm I haven't ever seen an "options" screen. Do you know where it is?

I have never run BF2 on full or even good settings because it keeps saying "your graphics card needs a new driver" and I don't know what they mean, or how to download it.

    Oh boy... lol.

    Bear with me.

    1. Drivers

Drivers are software programs that make your hardware run properly.

Your GeForce videocard should have a serial number or model number. Go to the Nvidia site, look for the driver updates for your model videocard and download and install them. It can be quite a sizeable download.

    2. Punkbuster

Do the same with Punkbuster (nearly all BF2 servers use Punkbuster). Download Pb for BF2 from the Punkbuster site.
Then update your Punkbuster for BF2 by introducing BF2 in the Setup panel and clicking "Update".

    3. Vista
If you have Windows Vista like I do, you can't play BF2 with Punkbuster in the normal fashion because you are kicked from every server for "lack of OS privileges" or something similar. That is because Punkbuster isn't quite adapted to Vista yet.
But there is a way around this: when you start the game, right-click on the desk icon and select "Run as Administrator". Then proceed as usual. If you play quasi as admin, Punkbuster will give you no trouble.

    4. Finally, your Options.
After you create a BF2 account and go online, you will see a display with clickeable boxes all along the top that say "BFHQ", "Multiplayer", "Singleplayer" etcetera.
There is a box called "Options" that opens onto a set of panels for Controls, Audio, Video etcetera. In the video panel you can decide your video settings. Follow the instructions I gave above and you should be alright. Experiment with them in a singleplayer scenario if you want.

    Hope this is any help.

Excellent! And the best news is there are two of them. I played some maps on them tonight and this is the game as it was meant to be: fast squad action.

Anyone know any often played mods?
While BF2 vanilla is great, I would like to know any suggested ones.

    Have you just been dumped?

I ask because it's usually something like that which causes outbursts like this, needless to say I dissagree completely.

You are very welcome, fellow Orgah.

Make sure you update your Battlefield version as well by downloading from the Battlefield official site the latest cumulative patch for your version, which is 1.4 or maybe 1.41. Look at the descriptions before you download. Plan to take a walk or spoil your GF while the file is loading because these are huge patches.

After all the downloading, updating and patching you should consult Koroush Ghazi's superb BF2 tweak guide to fine-tune your settings. It says it better than I could.

You can also consult this guide for further lag reduction.

Then go to this Secrets of Battlefield Guide to learn the finer touches of the game. The map tricks section is very informative, it tells you where that *** spawn-killing sniper is probably hiding, as well as where you should plant your mines or C4 for maximum effect, etcetera.

What can I say, playing BF2 is a day job...
Relief is at hand on YouTube though, where you can find great BF2 spoofs and ingame footage. Look for vids on 'cartillery' (an old exploit that allowed for massive vehicle drops on enemy soldiers, very funny), on 'bunny hopping' (some really absurd video clips) or on 'choppers' (where you can see the most convoluted helicopter stunts).

Well I have been playing online for some time now, so I have the patch. The only problem I had was with the driver.

I just downloaded it today and it has made a huge difference. The Graphics are great.

As for the skill tips - I don't know if I need 'em
