    Cool Turn It On Again!

Hello Frontroom, been a while since I last visited.. all ok here?

Well I was wondering.. are there any more Genesis fans around? I got totally into the band a couple of months back, listening to a couple of albums my dad once bought.. and the more I heard the more I loved it. Since the band is twice as old as me I was surprised to find that they are going on tour!.. And the even came to holland!! Sadly, my parents weren't really willing to go.. and my 18th birthday came just after it got sold out... gah!

I guess I'll just get the live DVD and keep my fingers crossed they stay together for a while..

Anyone here that is going to see the tour?

I like. Loved Lamb lies down on Broadway, absolute classic. I haven't seen Genesis, and I don't think I'd want to really, but I have seen Peter Gabriel live. He sure knows how to give a stunning performance (and I love his recording studio/houseboat!).

Good god, that's the least you can say!

Anyway, I like genesis, not a real fan, but I do like them. However, I'm not going to the concert. Me not much money, me not see many concerts, me only go to favourites.

Anyway hope you stick around again and good luck with cathing a possible next tour!

It's good to see you here, Drisos. Belated happy birthday . 18 now? Gah... Time flies.
I grew up listening to a lot of Genesis (and to Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel after Genesis split up). I saw Phil play to a sold out crowd at the California State University, Sacramento campus, back in the early-to-mid-90s. It was an excellent show; we were right in front of the sound board in the center, so we had ideal audio, and good visual. I actually prefer Peter Gabriel's stuff to Collins'. Tony Banks, Genesis' keyboard player, was never a favorite of mine, but I enjoy his playing. He fits very well with Genesis.

One of my all time favorite music videos Land of Confusion by Genesis. Hope you get to see them perform, they rock.

hey guys! Thanks for some nice reactions! What I've been doing.. well, I right in the middle of my exams now for the rest I've been busy making and listening music, and last but not least my girlfriend.

Masamune (), there's lots of discussion/arguing between Gabriel fans and Collins fans it seems. I love both - just think Rutherford/Banks/Collins make great music together - but if I'd have to choose, Collins, I guess. Gabriel's songs are more.. epi stories. Phil collins songs are more like the regular pop/rock I guess.

Land Of Confusion is one of my favourites as well, but there's lots of their songs I really like. (doh!) And then there were three is probably my favourite album. (we have it here, on such a black, large disk, I don't know the name) Follow You Follow Me and Turn It On Again are probably the favourites.

btw Masamune, I wonder, on the Phil Collins concert, was the guy with the huge grey beard there? I keep seeing him in Phil Collins Live clips, but perhaps his beard had some colour back then?

    GG:

Started drumming this year.. and making rapid progress. (I dislike speaking anything positive of myself but I guess I had to admit that one) I played the trumpet 8 years before this, but it didn't get along with my braces, and I wanted to keep doing music. well.. drumming is actually so much cooler in my opinion. for drummers among frontroom people: have a second hand pearl export set. crappy "headliner" hi-hat and ride, even more crappy "stagg" crash cymbal. not all that, but it didn't cost me much, it's very well functional and the toms sound rather good.

btw Moros TYOLT has never been off my mind really, but I don't really know what to say. I don't feel like spamming and don't have any brains left for thinkin about such things. (using all for my exams right now)

I play the guitar and thinking of getting a "mondharmonica" and if I know that good enough, I'm going to learn another instrument, and then another one and ...

Thanks Tosa last one today: physics.

GG, strange, I did remember Moros was the same as GG and talked to you as GG, btw when I wanted to point to andres I suddenly called him moros indeed.. (en dat is vwo6, de hoop voor de toekomst! )

btw, belgians and the 'G'? no way, it's more like a 'hee'. is it really too hard to learn 26 different ones? need to pronounce some in the same way, eh?

btw, electric, acoustic, bass? or, all kinds of?

Yep, I prefer Gabriel's work because of his more, theatrical presentations. I like Collins' stuff too though. Since my listening time is limited, I would tend to listen to Peter more often, but that's just me.

Guy with a huge gray beard? Hmm ... I don't recall. It's been a dozen years since that concert. How much do you remember about when you were six? Heh (where's that tongue-in-cheek smilie ...). What instrument is he playing in the clips you mention? Maybe I can find some vids online and have a look to see who you are talking about.

I'm sort of torn. Personally I prefer Gabriel's progressive stylings to Collins' pop, although I love 'One For The Vine' as much as any of Gabriel's songs.

My rough order of favourites, because I like making lists:

    1. One For the Vine
    2. The Musical Box
    3. Anyway
    4. Firth of Frith
    5. Fountain of Salmacis

Although I love just about everything (I Know What I Like as a notable exception) they've done pre-Hackett leaving.

If you can play classic you can olay electric, acoustic and bass. Well at least I can. But then again everyone can play bass.

Other way around for me... but I simply love the song 'The Cinema Show'. I like almost all of Gabriel's stuff as well, but that's one I'd call in 'Genesis top10' for me

hehe your mathematical abilities have been fading by the years it seems

Well I found a name: Leland Sklar.
    here's a video with him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egJR3K6UIJY
    pay close attention at 2:30.

Bit weird that I'm so curious after him, but I was just really surprised to see a Gandalf-looking type with a guitar I guess it shouldn't be much longer or it could get in the way.

Orb, I don't know 3 of the 5 you name there.. old ones are hard to find on youtube and we don't have all albums. I love 'One For The Vine' and 'Firth of Frith' too though.

GG, acoustic/electric seem to go along indeed but I know a couple who do play bass but are rather.. not-skilled where there's 2 more strings I don't know, are there really big differences in playing them?

... ? math was never my strong subject, heh. But isn't 12 (a dozen) +6=18? Didn't you say you just turned 18? I'm confused. Perhaps it's the "dozen" thing that's causing the mix up? Man, I have been working way too hard ....

Leland Skar, hmm, not heard of that name. I have to run to work now, but I will have a look when I get home tonight. Cheers.

Well for a guitarist it ain't difficult at all to play the bass. If you're used to play several strings at a time you can certainly play one string at a time. I mean that's how I started learning guitar, one string at a time and once that went smooth more strings and chords and stuff. The real big difference is just the thinkness of the snares, the length and stuff. However for a bass guitarist, well he still needs to learn how to play several strings.

Anyway personnaly I think that bass is easier. But that 's just my humble opinion. The only think I miht need to practice playing base is slapping.

Anyway I'm going to learn to play the piano this summer too. Well at least a little bit.

    Both from Nursery Cryme.

I couldn't (though I'm not surprised, because it's only a fairly short track from Lamb Lies Down...) find Anyway on Youtube quickly.

Thanks DG, it went reasonably well I think. I'd expected to do very bad, and it went much better then I expected.. so it's ok. I didn't need to good results to make it, anyway.. I was surprised by how easy chemistry, biology and physics were..

GG good luck with the piano, I love to learn more kinds of instruments as well, and I guess piano/keyboard (so.. anything with keys) would be next up after drums.

    Thanks Orb.
