Thread: Installation of the Game
Biodiode 18:40 05-31-2007
Hi All,

Long time lurker and this is my first post and unfortunately it is asking for some advice. I have tried installing MTW2 on my main PC and keep getting CRC errors on the 2nd DVD. I therefore tried installing the game on my laptop which unfortunately is not powerful enough to run the game.

Installing the game on the laptop worked first time no errors and I was therefore wondering if I used Nero to copy the DVD's on my laptop will I hit any problems when trying to install the game on my Main Gaming PC (ie copy protection issues)

If so is there another way as I think it could be the make of DVD drive's I have, both Sony.

Thanks for any advice given.

Adrian

The drive on your laptop isn't a writer, by any chance? writers are better at reading slightly damaged dvd's, so that could be it. Assuming you've just bought the game, I'd say you should take it back to the store and switch it for a new one.

Or, you could try copying it of course. There is some copy-protection thingy's on it, but I think that's limited to when you start the game with the disc, not when copying it. You should be able to copy the second disc, install the game and then play with the first disc... You probably wont be able to play it with the copied disc, but you should be able to install.

If you choose to go that route, make sure that you copy both discs and install them from the same virtual drive (or the game will hang on installation).

That said, CRC usually indicates either damaged media or a faulty drive, so who knows...

The best test for a crc error would be to copy all the contents of disk 2 onto your laptop, if that gives you a crc error then return game to sender and get a working copy.

Otherwise, try using a CD/DVD lens cleaner on your drive. If it's really old then you should save yourself a lot of future hassles and get a new one.

Thanks for the responses all,

I really think it could be something to do with the DVD drives in my game PC and yes the Drive in my laptop is a R/W. I have copied the contents of both discs to my laptop and it installed without any errors so it leads me to think that there may be something screwy with my other setup.

Well I sort have got it working in a strange way. I installed the game on the PC it would not work on and just pressed ignore to get past the CRC errors. I then copied the working installed game on the laptop over the top of the none working game.

Voila, the game loads and shows Version 1.02 so I may get chance to see if the campaign maps works okay. So far I have tried the quick and custom battles and it seems to work.

Okay slight update, the game runs okay but then started crashing randomly. It then occured to me that I had a similar problem with another game once over and just assigned MTW2 to work on one core only on my dual core proc. and I have played with it for 2 hours straight without crashes or pauses.

Well at least thislong winded process seems to have worked and I can enjoy actually playing the game.
