Thread: The Settlers: Rise of an Empire

Post The Settlers: Rise of an Empire

    Hi,
I just decided to have a quick browse around the sites of some of the games which I own, and found this when I had a look on the Settler's site. It's clear from the site that a new Settlers game is to be released in September - I've always been quite interested in the series that brought me into PC Gaming.

From the information, the video contained within the site and these videos, I feel that it may feature the more complex military of The Settlers HoK, videos show garrison-able walls, gates, a basic form of morale and attacking siege towers, with the micromanagement economy side of The Classical Versions of the Settlers (I, II, III and IV), possibly even, again, more complex. A developer claims that settlers will require entertainment and clothes as well as your typical foodstuffs required in The Classical Settlers games. It seems very meticulously detailed in both gameplay and graphics - you just got to hope that all the new features aren't bugged!

May I ask what you guys think about this latest intriguing title - it will be extremely interesting to see the views of others on the latest game. Thanks!

BTW, something else which appeals me to it is the, so far, is the suggestion that the system requirements are going to be pretty low - a developer said that anybody who has purchase a PC in the last two-three years should be able to play it with no problems. Due to quality of the graphics engine, I feel that the specifications may be the same as, or slightly higher, than HoK.

    Hm.

I've never played all the old settler games, but I tried the lastest one, loved it!

I can't really think on what they could improve, but if I was to ask for something in the new settlers game, it would be some good long campaigns!

just a question, were any of the previous games historically based?

Anyway, if not, I'd love to have a settlers game set in Amercias in the 1500's. :) though that'd never happen.

Edit: jeez, they all look pretty fat.

Nope, they're all just loosely based on historical factions though there have even been fantasy factions IIRC, didn't play the game, but it usually gets a lot of media attention.

That's what we call the "Knuddelfaktor" here in Germany, it's like a trademark of the series that all the people look like cute fat guys.

The last Settler game (I presume we´re talking about Settlers V: Heir of Kings, not the revamped Settlers II) isn´t very much like the previous games, more like a slightly more complex RTS. I enjoyed it just as I enjoyed it´s predecessors, but it is different.

I am looking forward to the newest incarnation, what I´ve read about it certainly sounds interesting.

Has Germany got the game yet Husar? I know from past experiences that the game is always released in Germany a few months earlier than in the UK - the team is German. I got most of my information about HoK by translating the German website using free translator software.

Apparently the release here is planned for September 2007.

Looks quite interesting, I've never really been into Settler games, but this one seems to be set in medieval times with big cities etc, could be interesting.

This one sounds disturbingly like 'city-builder'. I loved the old games (had a working version of 4), and I like city-builders, but I'm guessing this is going to be a bad half-way mark.

Settlers 3-4 were amazing, but settlers heritage of kings ultimately sucked... ass, so I hope this will return to its orginal settlers links (Game play wise), but it appears not

    EDIT:

It is sort of returning to its origins, sort of using the best parts of games in my opinon (Of settlers and the HoK)

    EDIT 2:
Heh cheese maker, but will they (The people who live in the city) have to have more than just one food type?

I hope the go back to the old series, not Settlers V.

It's a good thing Ubisoft bought Sunflowers, now the Anno series can influences The Settlers and vica-versa.

I am a settlers fan from the first 4

Settlers 5 made me so angry I cant speak about it

    way to ruin a game

I just happily threw it and AOE3 in the trash (and I horde old titles)

If the next one even looks remotely like S5, then I will not even download a pirate copy of it. One single large breasted woman on the cover and Iam boycotting blue byte for the rest of my life..... the rest of my life

sitting on my lap - no

in my computer games - yes particularly if they are being used as an obvious enticement to cover up for a substandard game

Stig - yes it was different - yes it was a RTS - but compared to other RTS games out at the time - I mean seriously it wasnt in the ballpark, the continent even. So I went looking for settlers and got a non settlers RTS, and a crap RTS at that. Double disappointment form one game

Looks interesting. I played some Settlers III today, and had fun. Looks like they are going for a more immersive game, which I appreciate.
