In northwest africa, my genarls get both the winter campaigning restricted and summer campigning restricted?

Is this supposed to represent the heat in summer and the wet season in winter?

Also, in Babylonia it has winter and summer campaign restrictions...I can understand the summer restriction, but not the winter...it is sort of in the desert, after all.

Congrats to your Alexander Imitatio, Megas Pyrrhos.

But how comes your Antigonos reaching the blessed age of 77? My Generals always (ALWAYS) die with exactly 62. With only one exception, my Basileus Demetrios dying with 64.

Had the same problem with Roman generals in North Africa AND, even more weird, near Mediolanum and in the Alps.

I was trying to role play as him, as in if he died one turn, i would load the game back up from the previous turn. It's so that i could role-play him to 239 bc, when he died historically. However, if he does make it to 81 years old, im gonna see how old i can get him to be

My personal best was 104 years, without resorting to saving and loading. He just kept going, and going, and going, and going ...

Does the winter campaign restricted trait actually make your armies move slower in hot climates? I seem to remember it's description saying that it'll slow them down "unless in an arid climate" or somesuch.

I believe it will slow them down, and that it's not supposed to be put on your general if he's in an arid region.

@Elukka What you were thinking of is probably the description for the season winter, which says that you will get the trait for restricted movment enless in arid regions.

WHOA, 104! Blimey! Is the age at which someone dies random, or does anything make them live longer/shorter lives (apart from being killed in battle etc.)?

Also, do you have traits that make it less likely that someone will have children once they are of a certain age? I believe the age traits restrict movement or something similar, but can't remember if it affects the chances of having children. Also, an old wife doesn't help either, if that's not included in the traits system. By the way, I assume that, despite its various flaws, Vanilla/the hardcode at least stops dead wives from giving birth...

All of this has to do with the limitations we face with the hardcode. We can only detect if the general is in an arid region (i.e. one that has summer campaign restrictions instead of winter) if the general ends the turn in a settlement. What must have happened in your cases is that your generals kept moving without ending turns in settlements, thus not allowing the AridRegion trait to set/reset.

But surely in that case the general would just have the wrong trait, not both?

Not really. WinterEffects and SummerEffects are not antitraits.

But if you can only get the trait when your in a settlement, how can you have both? If I understand what you have said corectly, when a general ends turn in a settlement then the trait is set to the appropriate region, surely when that happens the old trait is deleted? So how can you have both at once, if you can only obtain the trait in settlement?

No, I had one (I think it was in a baktrian campaign) that lasted normally until about 66-67.

Umm, Mesopotamia is defiantly not a desert. It's one of the 3 breadbaskets of the ancient world. The Tigris and Euphrates river system isn't call the fertile crescent as a joke, it's not a Greenland, Iceland thing.

Didn't that rely pretty heavily on extensive and highly sophisticated irrigation systems tapping the great rivers though, spceifically because the place's sort of arid once you're ten meters away from the riverbank ?

I thought you meant that both traits were possible, not that they happened at the same time. Could you post a screenshot of this?

No, I didn't mean that they happened in the same turn, I meant that they would both happen to one general each year.

Every general is affected by winter, except for the factions Sweboz, Sauromatae, Saka, Pahlava. This is regardless of whether they are in an arid region, which is a bug, as the description says it should not happen in arid regions.

There is also a bug in the summer campaigning. The marker of whether the general is affected by summer is initially set only if he is in a settlement in an arid region. However this marker is never reset, so he will be affected every summer for the rest of his life regardless of where he stays later, unless I've missed some logic.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

    Ahem:

    Code:
    ;------------------------------------------
    Trigger end_in_settlement_so_unset_AridRegion_flag
        WhenToTest CharacterTurnEnd

        Condition EndedInSettlement
              and Trait AridRegion > 0

        Affects ReverseAridRegion 1 Chance 100

    This gives the Summer restriction:

    Code:
    ;------------------------------------------
    Trigger summer_has_arrived_and_may_shut_down_campaigning
        WhenToTest CharacterTurnEnd

        Condition Trait Season = 2
              and Trait NoSummerCampaigning > 0

        Affects SummerEffects 1 Chance 100

    ;------------------------------------------
    Trigger summer_has_arrived_and_shuts_down_Nomads_dry_grass
        WhenToTest CharacterTurnEnd

        Condition Trait Season = 2
              and Trait SummerEffects < 1
              and Trait Nomad > 0

        Affects SummerEffects 1 Chance 100
So the conditions are NoSummerCampaigning and Nomad. How can you get NoSummerCampaigning?

    Code:
    ;------------------------------------------
    Trigger end_in_settlement_flag_set_so_must_have_hot_summer
        WhenToTest CharacterTurnEnd

        Condition EndedInSettlement
              and Trait NoSummerCampaigning < 1
              and Trait AridRegion > 0

        Affects NoSummerCampaigning 1 Chance 100
How can you reset NoSummerCampaigning? No trigger, so only through its antitraits HasSummerCampaigning, UnaffectedBySummer. No trigger affects HasSummerCampaigning or UnaffectedBySummer.
