Thread: GURPS: Europa Barbarorum

  1. #1

    Default GURPS: Europa Barbarorum

So I got bored, and had a character creation utility for GURPS 4e on hand, and decided, "Hey, you know what's cool? A Goidil hammerdude in GURPS, that's what.'

    Et voila!

Who's next? Best argument in favor goes first (assuming this thread gets any interest~)

A note for those interested at home: I am assuming 200 points for elites, 150 for professional troops, and 100 for levies, along with no supernatural traits.

Never got around to try GURPS. If I would, what books should I get to play in ancient times?

Of the latest edition, around the main relevant books I can think of would be Fantasy which partly touches on relevant matters. Of the previous, Low-tech and some of the genre/setting books might have useful information although the rules aren't fully compatible.

Personally, though, I would generally not take everything the books say at face value. They're sometimes enough off the whack that one seriously wonders where the Hell the authors pulled their info from, so cross-referencing with actual research texts and suchlike is recommended. I know the crap on feudal society and such in Banestorm gives me the rash.

Side note: the hammers of the Ordmornaghta seem to me more like "iron mauls" than the bec-de-corbin type Medieval pick-like weapons the GURPS warhammer equipement entry represents, and should IMO be treated more like crushing axes.

Here is a graph to illustrate the point."

Well the RPS is very simple, it stands for RolePlaying System. I've always liked to say that the GU stands for (sarcastically or not) Grown-Up's. So in my perfect world GURPS would stand for Grown-Up's RolePlaying System. However, in reality, wiki is your friend (and it stands for Generic Universal RolePlaying System).

I'm operating off of the Goidilic Hammer thread's antecdent's antecedent, which mentioned them having a big ol' spike. What I should have done is grabbed the maul and put it in the sheet as well, only with no weight have it represent hitting the fellow with the hammerier side.
