Well, in my opinion a loud Gah is in order here.

But if I had to choose one, Floyd by a long shot, because of Syd Barrett.
Too completely different styles. I have more Led Zep (every album) so I'll vote that.
But they're both great really. Except John Henry Bonham, he's the better drummer from the two bands, and IMHO the best drummer I've ever heard.

Some piously affirm: "The truth is such and such. I know! I see!"
And hold that everything depends upon having the “right” religion.

It's nice to see you here again ianofsmeg16!!
Damned tricky to decide, though. I had to say Floyd, though.
It was not theirs to reason why,
It was not theirs to make reply,
It was theirs but to do or die.

Obviously as its they who invented the beast. No Hendrix was not the guy who turned up his amp and started playing outrageously loud. It was Townsend and the Who. They invented hard rock along with bands like Blue Cheer.Obviously it's The Who
Floyd is probably the greatest prog rock band of all time however. Zep the 2nd best blues based rock band behind Cream IMHO.
The Who are basicly a hard rock band that ventures into prog. Listen to Live at Leeds and see what I mean. These guys held the record for the loudest band in concert for decades.

Indeed. Although I do believe that Sabbath pinched that particular honour.
I used to like Zep when my elder brother started paying their stuff in the early 70s.
Having said that, when he brought home 'The Piper at the gates of Dawn' , 'Obscured by Clounds' and finally 'Relics' i think that Floyd would edge it, if only for the mix of stuff they did.
There are times I wish they’d just ban everything- baccy and beer, burgers and bangers, and all the rest- once and for all. Instead, they creep forward one apparently tiny step at a time. It’s like being executed with a bacon slicer.

It's not a matter of playing loud. Most everyone can do that (hell, it was really the Chicago Bluesmen invented the amped-up guitar; the "beast" as you call it.) It's a matter of playing well.Originally Posted by Gawain of Orkeny
