    Default Best flat out Rockers

OK who is the best plain old flat out rock band. I dont want any prog bands, speed metal, death metal. Just good old rock. Im even going to disqualify my favorite rock band the Who for venturing of course. So no Zep, no Floyd. No Sabbath. Heres my contenders

    1 Aerosmith
    2 AC/DC
    3 Guns and Roses

Honorable mention to George Thorougood and the Destroyers amd the Motor city mad man Ted Nugent.

Best female rocker Joan Jett and the Blackhearts

PS f the Stones were to only do a set of their rockers they still may be able to claim the title as the worlds greatest rock band. However I havent liked anything theve put out in decades.

    Why fight over tastes ?

Replace "fight" with what you'd like in case you find it too harsh for what is meant.

Not really my kind of music (I'm more of the "softer" rock, The Who or something. Or even more soft Boston, BTO, Queen.)

Guns N' Roses have 2 good songs imo, November Rain and Sweet Child o' Mine.

But I'm going for AC/DC, simply better

And (but this one doesn't belong here either) The Darkness makes some very entertaining music.

Man Welcome to the Jungle rocks.

(I'm more of the "softer" rock, The Who
The hardest rocking band in history and you call them soft

I got to like Dr. Feelgood in the mid 70s, just before I discovered the 'joys' of punk rock.

Mind you this guy makes those wussies in Zep and Sabbath look like what they are....pink powder puffs!

There are times I wish they’d just ban everything- baccy and beer, burgers and bangers, and all the rest- once and for all. Instead, they creep forward one apparently tiny step at a time. It’s like being executed with a bacon slicer.

    The Supersuckers.

    Official Site
videos, see Rock and Roll Records (Ain't Selling This Year)

Despite forays into country Eddie Spaghetti and crew still play straight from the balls rock that is short, fast, sarcastic, and loud. Songs all about Beer, sex, parties, sex, sin, drugs, and sex.

Pffft. No punk bands either lol.

Now this is what Im talkin about

Heres something that backs up all I claim. The Who the world loudest rock band and the main staters of heavy rock

The Who Live at Leeds 2--BBC Look North

Commentary by Rick Wakeman. If you never heard this album and you like rock its a must. And remember this is 1970 but the Who had been playing many of these songs since 64. Even most of my friends used to ask how can you listen to that noise.

    Bad Company/Free...basically Paul Rodgers

G 'N' R...you've gotta love them, even if Axl sounds like a Cat giving birth hehe

    Where would you Classify Aerosmith?

    Bruce. Springsteen. The Boss.

I agree Gawain, The Who are absolutly fantastic..and still going strong! i saw them live a couple of weeks ago and maaaan Won't get fooled again keeps me going all night haha (I'm still a devoted Floydaholic though ;))

EDIT: I just dug out my copy of Live at leeds...the word 'awesome' doesn't do them justice

The Who is the best yes, but if you can't class them Springsteen can't be classed either, however good he is. Yes it's rock, but no real hardrock. As I said with The Who, it's just Rock ... but damned good Rock.

Thats where we part. They also are a prog rock band. Listen to all the orchestration in Tommy and Quad though some of their best rockers are on those albums. I love the opening bass lines in "Doctor Jimmy". No one has the energy of the Who . I feel sorry for all of you who never got to see the original. I went to their 10th aniversary concert at Madison Sq Garden and its still the best concert Ive even been to. And talking about rockers as the Who themselves say

    Long Live Rock

Down at the Astoria the scene was changing,
Bingo and rock were pushing out X-rating,
We were the first band to vomit in the bar,
And find the distance to the stage too far,
Meanwhile it's getting late at ten o'clock,
    Rock is dead they say,
    Long live rock.

Long live rock, I need it every night,
Long live rock, come on and join the line,
Long live rock, be it dead or alive.

People walk in sideways pretending that they're leaving,
We put on our makeup and work out all the lead-ins,
Jack is in the alley selling tickets made in Hong Kong,
Promoter's in the pay box wondering where the band's gone,
Back in the pub the governor stops the clock,
    Rock is dead, they say,
    Long live rock.

Long live rock, I need it every night,
Long live rock, come on and join the line,
Long live rock, be it dead or alive.

    Landslide, rocks are falling,
Falling down 'round our very heads,
We tried but you were yawning,
Look again, rock is dead, rock is dead, rock is dead.

The place is really jumping to the high-watt amps,
'Til a 20-inch cymbal fell and cut the lamps,
In the blackout they dance right into the aisle,
And as the doors fly open even the promoter smiles,
Someone takes his pants off and the rafters knock,
    Rock is dead, they say,
Long live rock, long live rock, long live rock.

Long live rock, long live rock, long live rock,
Long live rock, long live rock, long live rock.

Long live rock, I need it every night,
Long live rock, come on and join the line,
Long live rock, be it dead or alive.

The King of southern rock IMO. Though I like British rock far better.

    Springsteen!
Great in concert but boring to listen to on record. Sorry just a matter of taste, Never saw what anyone sees in him. I didnt even mention the best rock voer band in history and the most succesful the Beatles. Paul still rocks the house. Helter Skelter

I prefer the Fantastic Four And the Fab four for that matter.

Next to the Beatles they have to be the most commercial band in history. Theres nothing you cant get with a Kiss logo on it.

Iron Maiden's songs do NOT sound all the same...

They have some of the flat out coolest metal tunes of all time...better than any modern "music" by far, the Trooper man...THE TROOPER!

AC/DC are pretty damn good, and you asked for flat out rockers, you can't really get more flat out rock than them..

what about some of the better hair metal from the '80s...Bon Jovi, Def Leppard and such, Pour some Sugar on me is such a cool song.
