    Default Turkish troops enter Iraq

Many Turkish troops have entered Iraq in order to quail fightings in Kurdish areas. The US has stated we want them out, but with numbers I've seen of 50,000 in Iraq and 90,000 entering I don't know what we can do to stop it.

Well, we need LEN's view on this for clarity I think, but from what I've heard about recent Kurdish (PKK really, not all kurds are going to be like that) activities the invasion was pretty much unavoidable to maintain national securtiy.

I guess I'll have to keep a heads up and actually see, unless LEN or other Turkish Border Members can Confirm This. I haven't really seen any major sources say anything. OTOH Well, as a sanctioned member of NATO, if Turkey feels as though this is a necessary procedure, then they should have any Leeway they need and American Troops should either A. Help! or B. Stand Down immediately. I don't see any need for any other sort of discourse for American Troops in the Region.

Wait, that story is dated June 6th.... Damn, the government must be pretty good at covering-up if no one but this website knows about it 6 days after the fact.

    Edit: This sounds more likely..

You know, I was looking at the news sites for about 1/2 hour and couldn't find a thing on this.

I hear the sound of axes on grindstones methinks.
There are times I wish they’d just ban everything- baccy and beer, burgers and bangers, and all the rest- once and for all. Instead, they creep forward one apparently tiny step at a time. It’s like being executed with a bacon slicer.

Yeah I'm guessing if it really doesn't effect America we will not hear about it on the news. LEN please come confirm/deny this!

unlikely, the turks won't play nice with terrorists, or their families.

much like the russian example of kidnapping relatives and threatening to mail the perp his sons testicles, it is a sobering experience no doubt.

I believe a Peshmerga source claimed they were already across the border, but various other official sources have denied it. This is the way I remember it. No, Turkey has not invaded Iraq. Yet.

    Interesting. Thanks.

I hope LEN or some of our other Turkish folks will come and shed some light -- I've heard a lot about the big preparations coming but apart from this thread no invasion yet.

Sounds like a lot of posturing. Must be an election coming up in Turkey.

Especially when a reputable source reported that any invasion was 'unlikely' before the elections...

NATO member or no, I'm pretty sure the Turks would ask for permission to enter Iraq in such force. You don't just march in when your allies have occupied the country and helped set up a really truly democratic regime there. You tell the locals to do something and lean on your allies to speak for you.
If you're fighting fair you've made a miscalculation.

Where is LEN anyway - has anyone seen him lately ???

given tensions near him, his disappearance is disconcerting and a little worrying

    Here I am.

I was away for a bit to help my parents move to their summer house.

About the topic, there is nothing exceptional lately. We have lost about 7 martyrs to those filthy during the last week. PKK has surprisingly been active for the last months. But I can say that it won't take long before an operation into Iraq takes place. However it may be postponed until the elections to be held on 22th of July.
