    Default Unit statistics

I believe I had addressed this once before but I couldnt find where so Ill start a new one with more questions.
The first question is how do you determine what the statistics are for offense, defense, morale etc? Do you take a basic unit, say the Triarii assign numbers and then match other units in comparison to the Triarii, and build them from there?
Do you base the unit stats on their performance on real battles they participated in or is some of it based on the supposition of the arms and armor they use?
I know during the medieval times there were units made up of strictly two-handed swordsmen, but were there groups made of Goidilic hammers or Merjoz axe men? Im sure there were individuals in units that did use these weapons but was there entire units made up of these weapons?

Goidilic hammers yes. See another thread, called goidilic hammers. But that's stuff for the historians.
Anyway how we stat units: we stat units on a few things:
-how they should behave in battle
-on how they acted in historical battles we know off
    -the equipment they have
-on what our historians tell us about them
    -....
We use a overcomplicated Excel spreadsheet for this. But for the details you'll have to ask Qwerty or Tk-421
