    Default Memory Lane

I was upacking boxes from my old house to place in the new, and found an old CD which contained a incomplete version of the old Ugli website. In it, you will find out who was Ugli back then (though the list isn't complete in this version), some members' pics (including Major Dump for those who know him from here), a few tall tales (by Major Dump and myself), and even the precursor of the latest version of the honor society code of honor.

I hope this brings back memories for those of you around during those times, and gives other newer players a hint at what it was like then. We weren't always the curmudgeons you see today.

It brought a smile to my face as I was going through the pages and remembering some old friends.

Then you must not be the same TosaInu which played in those campaigns or your memory is not very good of the events of that time. Are you one of the others, on staff, who take over as the acting TosaInu when the original is away?

That TosaInu joined Ugli so he could play in the MP campaign. Amazingly the site was public, well-known, and well visited for quite awhile and you never stated anything to the contrary . . . until now? Interesting you choose now to forget, especially given my opposing views on M2 MP, the unrelenting attacks by the same individual(s) on players and threads which state they enjoy the new MP game, and recent PMs I have received (from some) when pointing out the fact some in the .org community may be acting a bit immature by continually bashing the new game.

NOTE: Most who joined ugli never used an Ugli name, but were given one for the membership list. These were given to avoid problems with the clans, since we were/are not a clan and anything one did as an Ugli could not reflect back on one's clan. It was/is open to all who wanted to be a member. Quite a few of the Ugli's didn't use a recognizable name and only myself and Obake know their true identities. It would surprise a lot of the old vets to know exactly who was an undercover Ugli. All were asked before assigning them an Ugli name for the list. Whether you choose to deny such is fine Tosa and if you have a problem with it, I will gladly remove yours and any other's name from the old website, if you so desire.

PS: The "2-turn campaign" remark is misleading, and I think a subtle insult (since it serves no other purpose in your post than to belittle), which (in my opinion) is unbecoming of an admin, who is supposed to be neutral and unbiased. I can provide the exact history of that first MP campaign -- which reflects badly on a couple of well-known, and formerly respected, members of the .org -- if you like. I still have the old forum posts where two certain individuals showed their true personalities when they were outsmarted by RazorStrike. It was the main reason for the ending of the first MP campaign. I declared Strike the winner since -- he didn't break any of the rules and he had a commanding lead. Everyone agreed on Strike as the winner, except for two certain individuals who became quite distraught. Even making accusations of favoritism by myself (the host). The conversations that followed, in the forum, were very "interesting" to say the least.

I could also bring in a few old players, like Strike, Obake, Hammy etc . . to help provide details of what actually occurred during this time, if it will help refresh everyone's memories.

Not all memories are good of that time. Everyone had their moments where they lost all good sense, but some choose to forget their past indiscretions and pretend they never happened.

LOL Ashel. I remember everyone's identity from those days.

It was always fun when everyone was trying to figure out who was beating them, and why you knew so much about their playing styles. :)

I mention this because I moved awhile back, losing my old email addy. When I visited here after the move I had forgotten my password. With no valid email addy, I could not request my old password, so I emailed TosaInu asking for him to either change my email contact info. to my current one, or change my password so I could login.

This Tosa did not recognize me, did not believe me when I told him who I was, and did not remember things I mentioned to prove I was who I was. I thought it odd that this Tosa would not remember these things.

I finally remembered my password (through chance) and was able to login again. A bit later I received a PM from one of the staff (I won't mention who here, but can PM you with the info. if you like) apologizing for not recognizing me. It wasn't TosaInu, but someone who obviously has access to his account. I had heard rumor in the past there were a couple people who acted as TosaInu. I was told the Tosa account was a general account now and not necessarily one individual. It might be all coincidence, but when I mentioned it to this staff member who PM'd me, I was not corrected. Which is why I was asking the question.

    I am.

or your memory is not very good of the events of that time.
I do, it may differ from other perceptions, but that's nothing new.

Are you one of the others, on staff, who take over as the acting TosaInu when the original is away?
    A Kagemusha scenario?

That TosaInu joined Ugli so he could play in the MP campaign.
    I played the campaign.

PS: The "2-turn campaign" remark is misleading, and I think a subtle insult (since it serves no other purpose in your post than to belittle), which (in my opinion) is unbecoming of an admin, who is supposed to be neutral and unbiased.
It was a STW campaign. Both lasted 2 turns, I played in them. 1st being Mori, 2nd Chosokabe (having a secret no cross sea agreement with Shimazu). If I said campaign you'ld also read a subtle insult in it, as it lasted just 2 turns.

I can provide the exact history of that first MP campaign -- which reflects badly on a couple of well-known, and formerly respected, members of the .org -- if you like.
Yes, there was a discussion about how to play it before it started: like STW campaigns unless stated otherwise. When the game started a new rule was made during the first turn without the rest knowing it (not really a rule, more adding a diplomatic phase in battles, a feature?). My point was that this was not agreed upon, and not part of STW. Adding extra rules/elements without the rest knowing it creates trouble. How does that reflect bad?

I still have the old forum posts where two certain individuals showed their true personalities when they were outsmarted by RazorStrike.
One of them must be me then. I recall having congratulated RazorStrike in a RPG'ish flavoured style: 'The real Tokugawa (Imagawa) won too'. It looked like it was perceived as a blow below the belt. It was not.

It was the main reason for the ending of the first MP campaign. I declared Strike the winner since -- he didn't break any of the rules and he had a commanding lead.
An extra not agreed upon dimension was added. Yes, he fought another guy and that guy lost his daimyo in the first battle (no heirs). Nothing wrong with that. What was the diplomatic during battle again? He could keep his daimyo if he gave up all other provinces? I understood it being nice as this allowed the other guy to continue the game, less nice because it was done without us knowing and even less because it sets a precedent for more new features. A game has rules or it has not. Both ok with me, a pity I don't deserve to know before I play.

Everyone agreed on Strike as the winner, except for two certain individuals who became quite distraught.
Quite distraught? I didn't agree about adding the diplomacy during battle without us knowing (not agreed upon nor part of STW SP campaigns). Strike made another move in turn two and that was pretty decisive. So gg. The rules were improved and a new campaign started. Strike won again within two turns: gg.

Even making accusations of favoritism by myself (the host). The conversations that followed, in the forum, were very "interesting" to say the least.
    Oh?

I could also bring in a few old players, like Strike, Obake, Hammy etc . . to help provide details of what actually occurred during this time, if it will help refresh everyone's memories.
I know the details, no doubt it will be perceived different.

Not all memories are good of that time. Everyone had their moments where they lost all good sense, but some choose to forget their past indiscretions and pretend they never happened.
I remember the good and the bad. I agree: some insist they never happened.

This Tosa did not recognize me, did not believe me when I told him who I was, and did not remember things I mentioned to prove I was who I was. I thought it odd that this Tosa would not remember these things.
This Tosa was careful not to give the account of a well known community member away. Using public known facts to identify doesn't suffice. Tosa did e-mail Obake, you were logged in at some other computer and instead of PM'ing me again you posted in public. The reward for being careful was a mocking. Stank voor dank in Dutch.

It wasn't TosaInu, but someone who obviously has access to his account.
Noone has access to my account, unless they manage to hack it.

I was told the Tosa account was a general account now and not necessarily one individual.
    Never was, never will be.

You decided to take a vacation after having your password back. When you returned 6 months later you replied to my yet unanswered PM. Part of that was the more constructive bit about avoiding this in the future. In reaction to that a secret q/secret a was added. You were the reason to add this, yet you haven't taken the 2 minutes yet to set it. What do you suggest me to do when I receive a PM from Elmo4 account claiming to be you? Just give a new password?

First off: Would you like me to remove your name from the list of Ugli's? You seem to want me to do so, even though the site was up for a long time and you had to be aware you were on the list. You can continue to deny it, like you do past events, but it is funny how you only now appear to have a problem with it, instead of then. Interestingly your "problem" coincides with my recent "warning" concerning one of your closest friends. If you really were only concerned about your name being on the list, you would have PM'd me, asking me to remove it, like you always suggest others do. However, you chose to jump into my thread, which was created only to provide a fond memory of the "good ole days" of STW/MTW, and make statements which were not necessary and which obviously were meant as insult. You're not as slick as you think.

Secondly: I mentioned the secret question as a way to keep this from happening again. You never acknowledged it was an acceptable solution, so I did not bother to pursue the issue. Unless I have missed a PM somewhere and accidentally deleted it. If you have this PM, please post it here for me to see. I will be more than happy to accept responsibility if it is my oversight.

As for you doing anything to remedy the situation, I still do not remember my password and have no way of changing my email addy without it, so I STILL cannot retrieve the password in the future. The reason I was gone for so long was I was building a new house and was living somewhere without access to my old PC. You never offered to change anything for me, even after acknowledging I was who I was. We had several PMs between us, and to anyone else, it would have been ample proof. I provided the letters in the password, (unfortunately, I cannot seem to get them in the right order or proper case), had a few patrons post here for me, suggested you email Obake, and even asked you what type of proof or what question I could answer to prove I was who I was . . . it was obvious there was nothing I could do to prove my identity to you. I posted in the other forum hoping to use my well-known name there as further proof of who I was, so don't make it sound like I was being unreasonable. I don't really believe you were protecting "a well known" community member as much as giving me a hard way to go. Had I not somehow typed my password in correctly on this PC, I have no doubt I would STILL be unable to prove to you who I am. Which would probably be considered a "good" thing by some of you.

What interests me is why did I receive a PM from a certain person (who did not go by the name of TosaInu) apologizing for not recognizing me? You were the one I PM'd about all of it, not this individual, so how did he know the contents of our PMs to each other? Though I should have known he couldn't be TosaInu, since I have never seen Tosa apologize for anything or ever admit to making mistakes. Like quite a few others around here.

Seems memories fade of certain events during that campaign. Your memories deviate from the actual facts. I have the posts if you really want them to become public knowledge.

You so easily insult others while feigning innocence, but if a patron returns the favor in kind, they receive a warning. This has been the status quo for quite a while.

I realize you are not impartial when it comes to your fellow clan members and longtime friends and know how sensitive you are about certain issues concerning beta test teams and other past history. It becomes obvious every time you post a response when such things come up.

There isn't anything wrong with giving your friends the benefit of the doubt, but when you (not "you" as in Tosa, but "you" as in admin/mods) allow these friends to continually take "pokes" at others, while not allowing them to "poke" back, you further taint the image of this forum.

The .org used to be an enjoyable place to visit. One where both SP and MP players could come to discuss the current game. As the years have progressed, it has steadily become an extremely insular community, dominated by a small group of disgruntled players who have decided to take their frustrations out on anyone who states they enjoy the current game.

They are allowed by the .org staff to continually bash CA, the current game engine, and to insinuate anyone who enjoys M2TW must be brain damaged. They do this under the lame excuse of "I am just pointing out the facts and trying to keep unknowing patrons from wasting their money on a new game".

I also remember when this forum was frequented by CA staff and was the only site through which the MP community had even a small chance of communicating their thoughts to the developers. It was one of the main selling points of the forum, but no longer. This same group, has obviously insured that no future communication is possible given the hostility they show towards anything concerning the new game engine.

Not only have they chased off CA staff members, they also have chased off almost the entire RTW/M2TW MP community.

Funny thing is, the current .org staff, doesn't seem to see anything wrong with this. They appear to support such nonsense by allowing it to continue.

Now if you care to discuss any of this further, feel free to PM me with your concerns. Let's get back to the original topic and reminisce about the fun things that happened during those days instead of taking "pokes" at each other.

If you decide I am out of line, feel free to take whatever action you like by pretending you have been wrongfully been, misunderstood, mistreated and maligned. I am sure you can all get together and come up with several interpretations, of what I have typed recently to validate further penalties. There isn't much left at the .org to enjoy these days, so I won't be missing out on much.

Besides, I don't have the heart to watch the slow suicide of a once great forum.

I think some should heed Elmos advice. I hated RTW. I returned it after only 3 days. But I didnt come here and endlessly lambast it. If you dont like it dont play it. But dont tell others not to or call them foolish for doing so. I havent found a better such game around.

Actually mate, it looks like Tosa threw the first scrawl in this cat-fight.

Plus I don't see either of them using profanity or insulting language, nor anything that forced you to read this thread. Although seeing as you have Elmo on your ignore list, this shouldn't be a 'problem' for you anymore...

(P.S. There's an ignore list? Another missed opportunity for Fawkes then...)

Have you been made a moderator or anything of that sort lately here?

Because if not, the tone and content of your post that says to others what and whatnot they should be commenting is slightly off, as that is not really your business...

Erm, where did I say anyone should be doing anything?

The only 'should' in my post said that Warman's problem should not be a hassle for him anymore. And that was based on the fact he said he was putting Elmo on his 'ignore list' (i.e. what he wrote himself). So I don't exactly see where I instruct anyone to do anything.

Not to mention the irony in that you deride me 'telling others what to do' while at the very same time telling me what and what not to write.

    Many Thanks

Reminiscing about good times in TW MP past is good. However, digging up old disputes and misunderstandings and presenting them here in a public forum...to what purpose other than to cause a flame war, twist the knife, encourage axe grinders to participate. I expected better from you Elmo, use the pm function if you wish to continue such childish disputes. Thread closed.
