I've not actively posted for about 2 years now, only just came back (I'd have posted earlier, but I forgot the password. then I came back from a drinking/ curry night and suddenly remembered it). The reason I came back is its just a lot nicer and more interesting here than most places on the internet.
The scary thing about leaving the Org for a while and then coming back is the exponential growth of "gah!" on your return...

I return for the laughs, the babe thread, the discussions, the orgahs, the family! Yes the ORG is a family that backstabs each other over and over and over again, covers you with oil, burns you, and dances the macarena around you til you pass out. That's why I come back; the experience.

Wow Bijo, I've had similar thoughts lately, when I visit here, I usually feel good, I don't know why, but that's the way it is.
It's certainly the best community I know on the web and there is no other forum where I have more than 500 posts I think.
I'd even say I spend too much time here since I read here every morning when I should rather prepare for uni.
Oh, and in the evening, when I should sleep(just joined the chat )...

    Teh peeps.

Despite the arguments and drama (or actually, in addition to that), this has accidentally become the finest assemblage of minds I've found on the 'net.

Folks from all over the world come here to find some info on a strategy game, and stick around for the free food, drinks, and conversation.

Still waiting the free food and drinks. Meanwhile, the conversation stimulates, every day.

Yeah, the family, as God's Grace said.
Be well. Do good. Keep in touch.

I come to the org when i have nothing better to do. Thus, I come here quite frequently.

Usually, sans social life (basically, during the summer) I come here, since I know the people well, and they are genuinely intellectually stimulating.

I enjoy the variety of perspectives from patrons all over the globe, ranging in age from very young to rather old (like me). I no longer enter the Backroom, but even in the relatively mundane Front Room I find interesting topics and responses from time to time.

The Org is also a resource. I can ask a question and people will respond, or connect me with information, or with other people who might know about a thing that interests me. I return this service when I can.

Occasionally, I'll vent. It's interesting to see if others share my pain, tell me to "buck up," offer an alternative way of viewing the source of my stress, or just say "meh, whatever." Nowadays, it's a place to come and read lightweight stuff for a few minutes while I enjoy some tea and de-workify in the evening, and perhaps respond if a topic or statement inspires me to participate for whatever reason. Every once in a while a topic from the Heart appears, and reading the responses can sometimes restore a bit of my dwindling faith in humanity.

Heh, I also stick around because there are a few here who would like to see me leave, and I enjoy annoying them, however slightly.

As far as making friends go ... hmm. I've made a handful of very good friends which have lasted years now. But in all fairness, it has not been just through the Org. Most are people I met in the greater community of which the Org is a part: in the clans/non-clans, in the foyers, and on the battlefields. The number of personalities that intrigue me here has diminished over the last couple of years, but there are still a few.

Because I have not allowed the massed opinions of influencial patrons and staff to control my behavior in some instances where they felt I was out of line, it seems I've "lost some respect." This doesn't really matter. Oftentimes the like-minded attempt to use the giving or withholding of "respect" as a reward or weapon. It gives me satisfaction to deny them their intent, and to continue to think and act on my own convictions, despite their petty consequences.

Finally, I've gained bits of ... wisdom that have proven useful in my journey, from both older and younger patrons here. I like to think that maybe my perspective has proven useful to others from time to time. I think this is the primary reason why I stay, or return after a needed respite.

There, but for the grace of God, goes John Bradford

My aim, then, was to whip the rebels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom.

I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation.
