    Default The Kingdom of Brythunia

    The Kingdom of Brythunia

“Five hundred years later the kingdoms of the world are clearly defined. The kingdoms of the Hyborians – Aquilonia, Nemedia, Brythunia, Hyperborea, Koth, Ophir, Argos, Corinthia, and one known as the Border Kingdom – dominate the western world.” – The Hyborian Age
    Capital: Sargossa (Brythunia)
Settlements: Charnina (Brythunian Hills), Kelbaza (Brythunian Plains), Potrebia (Brythunian Dell)
    Current Ruler: Gwaen Lounacea

Brythunia is a rougher, ruder Hyborian kingdom, and also mysterious: only two Brythunians are mentioned by name in the saga, and very little of their culture. Since the name Brythunia obviousley resembles Brythonic, Brythunia will be based on medieval Wales and dark age Britain, though one without the influence of Christianity, so lots of pagan and celtic symbols. The names of characters will be drawn from Welsh and British history. Brythunian Princesses are widely considered the most beautiful women in the world, and so the most effective.

    Rhyfelwyr
The Rhyfelwyr (Infantry) are the standard infantry of the Brythunian realms, and about as useful as other Hyborian spearmen. They are armed with a large Brythonic shield, spear and a curiously Nordic-styled helmet, a throwback to their barbaric roots.

    Campwyru
Campwyru (champions) are nobles, local heroes and famous warriors who can afford high quality Hyborian armour, though they are as proud of their Brythunian heritage as any other.

    Helwyr
Helwyr are the standard archers of Brythunia, composed of hunters and peasants on the forested borders of the northern frontiers, where Hyperborean slavers frequently raid. These archers are normally used to ambush such parties in the forests, driving them out before taking to many Brythunian girls for their seraglios, and hopefully discouraging them from attempting such actions in the near future.

    Marca
The Brythunian interior is a land of plains, so the horseman reigns over the heartland. Most Brythunians know how to ride a horse, and the unremarkable but reliable Brythunian warhorse is adaptable and numerous enough to see plenty of travel and excitement.

    Marchogleudd
Since Brythunia is a land of vast plains, a fast-response unit from the towns and cities to any place in danger is vital. The Marchogleudd are a special unit of mounted crossbowmen effective in melee and ranged combat, who are dedicated to rooting out outlaws, brigands and raiders throughout the land.

    Marca Saethwyr

With the threat of Turan and the Kozaks ever threatening to overrun the thin strip of Zamora protecting Brythunia, many Brythunians have taken to adopting the crossbow as a quick and effective missile weapon. They are all but useless, however, against the rampaging horse archers of Yezdigerd. One way of counteracting this is to use mounted archers themselves, such as the Marca Saethwyr. Although they could not hope to match Turan's horse archers, they still offer a decent fight, and if combined with superior numbers and a wily general, could even better them on the battlefield.

    Teleu
The Teleu are the house troops of the King, and some of the greatest warriors of Brythunia. Like all Brythunians they are dedicated horsemen, and are considerably hardier than other general's bodyguard, which could offer a distinct advantage on the battlefield.

Cheers mate, though I have to be pedantic and say I've not done actual modeling work yet, these are just re-textures. Thanks though!

Brythunia will probably be the closest Hyborian equivalent to Rohan, in that they'll have a good variety of light to medium cavalry with rare but strong elite infantry. In practice they're probably closer to a merged Gallic/Medieval Polish look based on research with Howard scholars. I suspect if you play The Fourth Age or Lord of the Rings mods, then similar tactics for Rohan would be ok for Brythunia.
