    Question Triarii polybian/camilian?

I was wondering why the Triarii have slightly less stats after the upgrade from camilian to polybian? Is it a balancing issue or is this something from history that caused them to become the same or less than they used to be.

I believe it has to do with the fact that they didn't use the Phalanx formation in the Polybian era, whereas they did in the Camillian era.

I think the change from muscle curaiss & aspis to mail & scutum would have something to do with it.
maybe those guys should be doing something more useful...

They have less stats but more morale, which means they might not be quite as good at chewing through enemy units, they are even better at their intended purpose, pinning down a troublesome unit so you can kill it with cavalry charge (or missile fire from behind).

Why do polybians cost more and require more money to upkeep though?

Maybe the new equipment, the adaptation to the change, new trainning, gamebalance.

I would like to know, if it´s possible, what are the caracteristics that determine the units cost & upkeep in your economical system (EB)?

    Thanks!! :)

equipment (each piece has a cost associated with it) + troop quality (each notch has a cost associated with it and there are actually 3 different sets of troop skill category for different things) + any special modifiers.

yeh, but the camillan hoplites are stronger and tend to hold the line better with their formation.

The lower defense is because of the equipment change.

Camillan Triarii use a bronze muscled cuirass and a hoplon-like bronze shield. Polybian Triarii use a Hamata Lorica and Scutum (slightly larger, but made of plywood with an iron boss and reinforced edges), hence they are slightly less armoured.

That being said, Polybian Triarii should be faster than Camillan, according to history they were far easier to deploy and control because of the no-phalanx thing. How about giving us something like that to balance it out?
