Default Unmatched Virility of the Macedonians

Did you ever have an older competitor at the Olympics?

This guy is 57 and decided to take part for the first time... He didn't succeed btw.

I had a makedonian that won in the olympics at age 47(not too old, but not exactly young, either), and also had the same last name as Stageirites (Ptolemas), but maybe it was because he was in supreme physical shape, governing all of egypt proper in its harsh sun...

These are bugs. Nobody over 40 should be able to compete.

He could have owned a chariot team. Women even won (very rarely) at Olympia because of this.

Yes, he married one of the noble daughters... And he's quite a bit older than she.

If he was also gay, one would have to wonder if said daughter didn't just find herself a convenient facade...

Kynistra! Glad to see I learned at least 1 thing over the 2 year course

Anyway, the spartans apparently had men well into their 80s serving and dying as hoplites, so what's so special about a 57 year old olympian?

I learned in my studies that spartan men could serve up until the age of fifty after which if they had served well were eligible for an office. I didn't know they could serve after that age.

That's nice that the Spartans could serve until into their 80s, but my characters usually die with 62. Only one ever made it to 64.

Is the Olympic competitor trait bugged? I thought I read somewhere that it's supposed to kick in only for FMs that are inside cities, while I'm getting many delays in military operations when the general or accompanying FMs suddenly sign up for olympics.

No. You can't have moved more than half your movement points to be eligible though.

    He did it again:

Another general is going to the Olympic Games although he is currently in a town besieged by Sweboz forces. I wonder if the Germans respected the Greek codex of honour not to attack when you're going to the Olympics.

Well, this year we have three Olympic winners from Wintry Dodone! And that's out of five that went. Two of them were a bit...old...as well.

Well, at least Phillios doesn't have to think about how sickly and odious his "beloved" is for the moment.

    I mean, bow-chigga-wow-wow.

Also, about the Agrianioi, are they as effective as people give them credit for?

Lightbulb Re: Unmatched Virility of the Macedonians

Heh, yesterday, in my KH campaign, I noticed an unescorted Epeirote FM stop to participate in the Olympics, while he was rebel-held, Roman-invested Venetia. I am not even sure what he was doing there in the first place: presumably he's trying to reach Tarentum from Epidamnos, but the A.I. isn't aware of the enemy (Roman) territories in between.

I am just wondering: shouldn't being in enemy territory prevent generals from taking part in the Olympics?

In all honesty, no. They're pretty brittle for being so 'elite', but I still use them because of their wonderful assault capabilities. I loathe assaulting cities with phalanx troops, due to the retarded-monkey pathfinding, so I generally have three to five units of "assault" troops that will storm the city under cover from the various "Psiloi" units, and then the phalanx only comes in as a last resort.

Yes. Basically they slaughter everything, have good stamina as well. Their only weakness is their lack of armour.

They are fine. They aren't really elite (that would be pheraspidai) but just excellent anti-armor troops. Don't use them against troops with low armor if you can avoid it.

I never meant to suggest the Argrinanian's weren't good, I only said they did not live up to their hype.
