Lightbulb Re: Unmatched Virility of the Macedonians

Heh, yesterday, in my KH campaign, I noticed an unescorted Epeirote FM stop to participate in the Olympics, while he was rebel-held, Roman-invested Venetia. I am not even sure what he was doing there in the first place: presumably he's trying to reach Tarentum from Epidamnos, but the A.I. isn't aware of the enemy (Roman) territories in between.

I am just wondering: shouldn't being in enemy territory prevent generals from taking part in the Olympics?

AFAIK they had to be in a city to participate...

In all honesty, no. They're pretty brittle for being so 'elite', but I still use them because of their wonderful assault capabilities. I loathe assaulting cities with phalanx troops, due to the retarded-monkey pathfinding, so I generally have three to five units of "assault" troops that will storm the city under cover from the various "Psiloi" units, and then the phalanx only comes in as a last resort.

They are fine. They aren't really elite (that would be pheraspidai) but just excellent anti-armor troops. Don't use them against troops with low armor if you can avoid it.

I never meant to suggest the Argrinanian's weren't good, I only said they did not live up to their hype.
