I've been to/lived in 25 states. Two were just layovers in airports though.

Florida - Doing the typical round of theme parks and so on.
California - Skiing on Mammoth Mountain, babysitting for a couple of weeks, and one trip to Six Flags Magic Mountain
Nevada - Flew in here on the way to CA.

I've been to at least 40. Although that Ohio/Iowa/Nebraska/Missouri/South Wisconsin area really all feels like the same place.
