California and Nevada - so I have a relatively distorted view of the USA!!

However I was amazed at how different places were even when they were quite close. We drove from Lake Tahoe - thick snow, below freezing - to Sacremento - very hot, temperature in the 80's F - in under 2 hours. Throw in all the different cultres etc and there is a surprise round every corner.
