Thread: What Anglish Ahk-zend Do You 'ave? (Non-natives)
Louis VI the Fat 16:14 18/06/07
Here's a great resource. It is a database of English as spoken by non-natives. You can hear samples from all over the world, and hear how different native langages affect English pronounciation.

This should actually be closest to mine. But I sound much more like this.

The Dutch accent when using English is horrible. Fortunately I don't sound like it too much.

If you're a native Dutch speaker, I bet you share his final obstruent devoicing, interdental fricative, non aspiration and vowel raising.

If you think I sound like a typical Dutchman, I think you would be separated from your betting money :)

And to think he's been living in America for 54 years.

Interesting is the different kind of English people are taught. Compare the American accent of the
Japanese with the British English of the Pole.

They have native English speakers from all over the world too. Here's my favourite English accent, South African.

Maybe because I have a clear Breton accent when speaking french (the same accent that the "johnnies" selling onions in southern england used to have).
Demat dit! Are you a French Jewish Breton living in England?

When speaking English, wouldn't you sound similar to Welsh speakers?

Gah! Your version beats mine!
But the guttural "jave" is more Spanish. " 'ave' without the 'h' is more French. Now that I say it out loud, your whole sentence feels more Spanish.
