Default A 1000 GB - HDD go Tera. And you?

After Seagate and Hitachi also Samsung, my favorite HDD maker introduced a 1TB
disk. Costs in nearby Germany roughly 240€.And I still remember when 5GB were the state of the art

Are you going to buy one in the next two years? Guess that I will wait until there are cheap enough to run in a RAID-conf. But you?

I have a buddy in Australia who said they had to inform the government when they used HDs with a TB of space at work.

Sounds very odd, but he didn't sound like he was joking.

My new 240GB HDD isn't even half full so far...

    It's a Samsung though.

I read the Samsung 1TB thing is better because it consists of only 3 disks inside instead of 4. That makes it faster and cooler.

1TB! How do you guys fill up that huge area of space? I'm only using 24GB (43%) on my new laptop and 30GB (50%) on my new PC. I must be doing something right somewhere!

Due to the above reasons, I probably will never buy one that large, or ever a quarter of the size, in the next few years. However, over time, games have evolved to be larger requiring larger amounts of space - if that trend continues, then I may, unfortunately, be forced to purchase one.

Only way that you need 1TB is if you were doing some serious high quality video editing or just wanted to archive every videogame that have been created.

I guess it depends how much storage intensive data you have. I make good use of imaging tools and store a lot of images on my HDD. I have images of every game I still had. MTW:VI was not among them

Still I think 1TB is a little extreme. I consider to go for a 400GB HDD as a midlife upgrade next year or so.

The answer is in your quote... the larger the hard drive the quicker it fills.

1 Terabyte isnt actually that much, if you can download 300 Gigas or more every month, it will only last for 3 months and a few weeks till you start sending things to dvd-rw´s...

If, and only if, you would download (or generally save) that much in rapid fashion onto the disk.

Lots of movies, I would think. I can't imagine what else could take up all that space, except maybe a photographer keeping a whack of digital pictures.

I've got a 74 gig raptor and a 250 gig WD, I'm looking for more space. the 250 is full of movies, music and backup stuff. The raptor is my boot drive, and is full of games/apps/utilities, I've got more than a gig of RTW saves and more than 300mb of M2TW saves on the raptor.

1 TB for movies, music, pictures, and games. Still pricey, though.
